Love your neighbor as much as you do yourself.
Believe that no one living is perfect.
Don't want what you cannot afford or should not morally have. Be honest in everything you do.
My personal beliefs are: God's son Jesus, died on the cross as one sacrifice for the whole world and rose to heaven on the third day.
The Bible says believe and ask forgiveness for your sins. "For all have sinned and come (into the world in sin ) short of the glory of God." Believe this and find a church that believes this.
No one knows the color of God, but he is everywhere and free. I would rather take the chance of believing than living this life with no hope, considering I have endured many negative things in my life and come out more than a survivor.

In Barna Research Group studies, born again Christians are defined on the basis of their answers to two questions.
The first is "have you ever made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ that is still important in your life today?"
If the respondent says "yes," then they are asked a follow-up question about life after death. One of the seven perspectives a respondent may choose is "when I die, I will go to Heaven because I have confessed my sins and have accepted Jesus Christ as my savior."
Individuals who answer "yes" to the first question and select this statement as their belief about their own salvation are then categorized as "born again."
“Evangelicals" meet the born again criteria plus seven other conditions. Those include:
1) saying their faith is very important in their life today;
2) believing they have a personal responsibility to share their religious beliefs about Christ with non-Christians;
3) believing that Satan exists;
4) believing that eternal salvation is possible only through grace, not works;
5) believing that Jesus Christ lived a sinless life on earth;
6) asserting that the Bible is accurate in all that it teaches; and
7) describing God as the all-knowing, all-powerful, perfect deity who created the universe and still rules it today.

You did say 'Christ-ian', not a Jesus-ian nor an X-ian.
Many so-called Christians don't know "Christ" at all.
Jesus is the Saviour of Israel(only)
Christ is the Saviour of the world
Jesus is about "division" and not peace.
Christ is about "peace" and not dividead
And you did clarify 'true' Christ-ian, not false.
So we're talking the Christ of Jesus-->Christ,
NOT the division-all Jesus of Christ->Jesus;
For CJ is mirrorly the reverse of JC,
much like Am I is reverse of I Am;
and JC is the only foundation laid.
Peace with God is "through Jesus-->Christ";
furthermore through Jesus-->Christ-->God-ward,
For God is not a man that he should mention law,
which then gives place to the sin and death of all.
So it's written by the using of ordinances all perish.
"Christ is the end of the law": Romans 10:4
So a Christ-ian is about no law = no sin & death.
In "Christ" there is no law imputed sin to confess.
Christ notably ascended higher than Jesus on high.
For what's on high is a left/right law/law sides war,
And what's higher, or above the law law, is grace.
At "the throne of grace" only mercy is obtain-able,
and thereby it's firstly peace-able, of seven things.
Christ is the seed, to whom the promise was given.
To WIT, "that God" = light (only) was in "Christ",
and notably "reconciling" (not alienating) the world;
And notably by not law imputing sin to them: 2Cor5:19.
So a TRUE Christ-ian would NOT impute sin to anyone,
for law imputed sin also imputes death unto everyone.
Rather a true Christ-ian has flushed law as if it's dung.
The grace(only) of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

I think you have to believe in Jesus Christ and accept him as the Savior. I also think you need to ACT Christian in your everyday life. Keep his commandments, love one another, things like that.
I don't think believing in the Trinity should be a requirement for a Christian. I belong to a Christian church that does not teach the Trinity, but it doesn't make any of these people less Christian. In fact, I have never seen a group of people who follow Christ the way they do.

No matter what, you will always be judged by Christians and non Christians like as to whether you are or aren't.
A Christian is someone that has accepted Christ as their Saviour and now lives for Christ. There is a heart change, they have left the temptations and sins behind and attempt to sin no more. However, that is impossible with us still living in the flesh and that is where grace and forgiveness from God come in.
Only God knows our hearts, no one else, only to Him am I responsible to.

First you must define "true Christian". Is that closer to
a) a follower of the teaching of Christ
b) someone trying to "fit in" and win the approval of the "church"
If the answer is A, then it's simple - follow his teachings
if it's B, then good luck

Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Messiah - the Son of God who saved you from sin by dying on the cross and raising again on the third day - and ask Him for forgiveness from sin

"considered a true Christian?"
Considered by whom?
Christian means (literally) "follow of Christ".
Read His words, know His deeds, follow His commands and you will be "considered a true Christian" by Him - and His is the one opinion that matters.
Blessings.
