girlfriend? So, why did he apparently want to tell me later that he has had a girlfriend for one week? Why would he tell a guy he ha a girlfriend if maybe he doesn't?

I don't know if I understand your question, but it sounds like he doesn't want you to know if he has a girlfriend or not. Maybe he wants you to think he's available.

Just because he could. Lots of regulars are like that and tend to tell bartenders everything and everyone else sitting there.
