I seriously believe that most people have to hit rock bottom before they begin to look inward and try to see they are living wrong to begin with....like becoming an alcoholic and facing the truth after everyone in your family has turned their back on you and leaves you to your own demise...that is when an alcoholic will admit they have a problem and turn to AA or what ever...People in prison have hit that rock bottom point and need to know that even though they have messed up or "blown it" there is still hope and there are many prison ministries out in that field to be a witness to those who have no hope left... and praise God for those people who reach out to the ones that the rest of society has given up on...in your hour of need and true repentance you will find a forgiving God ready to except you into his loving arms again.

I don't want to belittle those that have found"god" in prison, but the sad fact is that most play the religion card so they can get out earlier on parole, when they conveniently forget about what they learned.

Because humility and conviction of sin are prerequisites to salvific faith - and prison is often conducive to developing such. That as opposed to the affluent and those who don't experience the consequences of their sin till it's too late.

Most don't really find Christ, for most it's just the God BandAid: "I believe in God now!. . .Sooo. . . you'll set me free now, right?"
That's not to say that there aren't some people who truly find religion in prison, but in my opinion most are just trying to get some sympathy.

Most people turn to God when they find that they can not handle life or death, because God answers all the questions and helps us get through life..

Prison gives you a chance to sit still and reflect on your life's choices. Something that everyday life doesn't do.

Sometimes as sad as it is, it takes hard times to make us realize what is important in our life.
And only God and the person know if these experiences are real..

Simply, they want time off for "good behavior"...it looks good to the parole board if they get all religious.
