The quote about brevity was incomplete. Here is the source of the quote fully expressed in proper context:
Therefore, since brevity is the soul of wit,
And tediousness the limbs and outward flourishes,
I will be brief.
~William Shakespeare, Hamlet
Aren't Big words the ultimate forms of brevity without which we could not discuss complicated general ideas ?
Of course Shakespeare was not in favor of regressing back to the language of pre- Homo Sapiens who used brief grunts and snarls to communicate very basic ideas like me want food, me want sex, me not feel good, me angry! Etcetera, etcetera ad infinitum perpetuum. Uga Uga Buga

Somethings need to be expressed in big words or long phrases. For example Biologists track the habits and migration of ecologically hreatened sea-lions by GPS tracking systems that map their movements through periodic and continuous satellite location solutions. I challenge anyone to try to abbreviate that description without significant loss in the information .content conveyed in condensed form..

It's not the size of the words that matter, it is their meanings that matter and how they are used.
