My mother in law is a devout catholic and crosses herself etc. Yet yesterday when loads of frogs had come onto the roads in our local area (because of the rains) she did not want me to rescue them from being run over (as I always do).
What do you think of this? Mum says she hates animals and if she had been noah, the ark would have only contained she, her snacks and a video of Most Haunted.

Needless to say I rescued the frogs and continue to watch out for the wildlife in our area.

Maybe she was also worried for your safety on the road, and could envisage a prime mover or bus collecting you as well as those horrible frogs. I would say it could come from growing up without developing an appreciation of animals (say as opposed to children and grandchildren, who she might well be willing to lay down her life for). It is easy to overlook the fact that frogs and all other animals and people we like or disike are supposed to be God's creatures when we live our lives removed from them. Good luck with the frogs. I think your mother-in-law is missing out on something great if she can't see the beauty and good things about frogs.

typical of devout catholics who believe that animals do not have sould so are less important than humans.
Im glad that her views have not rubbed off on you andthat you were willing to save the frogs. We all have an equal right to be here, humans and animals no matter how small or insignificant they may seem.

Well, then, she should remove from her life everything and anything that came from other animals, or were produced in any way with the help of animals.
No more meat, no dairy, no honey, not even any fruits or vegetables that are pollinated by bees.
Then let's see how much she 'hates' animals.

I think you have a problem with your Mother-in-law. Don't get involed in a private fight--thats what a wise uncle told me.
Do you gig frogs? Use them for bait? I don't know. That your wifes mother be kind

Was 'Most Haunted' around in those days? Personally, I don't think I would have loaded cockroaches onto the boat.

Sounds like my neighbour - she hates cats and other pet-type things - and I don't get it. Don't think she watches Most Haunted though?! (BTW think MH is a bit dodgy for christians with all the occult stuff...)

Find your own path in this world, if it is religeous then that is as is should be. Taking the beliefs of our parents is not healthy, not that you should not heed their advice but do not take everything they say(or believe) as gospel. Be yourself.
