It's going to cost you probably 4 hundered dollars after everythings said and done. Not including the vet check which you should definately get done. And then you're going to have to calculate the cost of food which you'll always be needing. You cannot train the to use a litter box.

And you definately cannot change their sleeping habits. Don't even try to. There eyes are meant for night and too much sunlight can kill them. So it's really best for you to be awake when the sugar glider is, not the other way around.

You might want to look into getting 2 sugar gliders as they are extremely social animals. They can do very well one their own but they will need a lot more attention.

I know this isn't really an answer, just some advice.

Double check with your state laws, etc. because sugar gliders are illegal in a lot of states! =(

-First find a vet in your area that cares for exotic pets (if there isn't one consider getting another animal)
-Only buy a baby, or they will never trust/accept you.
-Sugar Gliders have keen noses, scented soap hurts them literally burns so no perfume, scented laundry detergent...etc.
-If they smell another pet or a cologne etc. sometimes they will lash out by jumping in your face and attempting to claw your eyes out.
-Invest in a hooded sweatshirt. They liked to be carried around when they are young.
- Plan on spending about 150 bucks for a huge cage a place for them to hide like extended cloth nest branches, toys food.

** Here's a good site to reference: http://www.sugar-gliders.com/sugar-glider-care.htm

Edit: regarding the thumbs-down... only an idiot wouldn't check to see if their pet was illegal or not. What a waste of time and money to have a pet confinscated and be fined for keeping it.
