Near sightedness is called myopia. You eye is too long so the picture comes through your cornea and lens and is not able to shine directly on your cornea. What glasses do is bend the light to shine it there. Our eyes are the same size when we are born as they are when we die but our eyes manage to get slightly shaped differently as we grow causing this myopia. Then, when we get older, our eyes change again and cause hyperopia or far sightedness. This is why your grandparents all wear reading glasses. The good news is that our eyes will get worse until about age 18, but then our eyesight will get better starting around age 40. Your vision should quit changing when you get to be around 18. Plus, when you get about 20, you can have lasik, hopefully.

I'm afraid I don't have the scientific answers for you with regards to your myopia, but I have listed some sites below where you may be able to get the information that you're looking for.
What I can say, however, is that light is not focused on your cornea. That's at the front of the eye. Light is actually focused on the retina, which is at the back of the eye.
Anyway, take a look at these few sites. Hopefully, they will help you understand things better.
