Dog's mouths will never smell minty fresh, but you can help by taking care of his mouth the same way you take care of yours. Buy a dog toothpaste and a gentle toothbrush. Brush his teeth twice a day. If it doesn't get any better, he may have infected teeth. Small dogs are more susceptible to crowding and infection. Take him to the vet because he may need a teeth cleaning, or even get some pulled. This is expensive, but oral infections can spread throughout the body, and soon your little guy could have a life-threatening illness.

Get your dog's teeth professionally cleaned and checked once a year. Don't feed wet food as a constant diet. Give him things like milk bones or Greenies to chew. Brush his teeth if you can (if he'll cooperate).... and remember he is a dog - what other kind of breath would he have?
P.S. Lay off the mints.

First you have to have your dog examined by a vet to make sure that there isn't a medical problem creating the bad breath, such as a rotten or cracked tooth, a stomach or throat problem. Brushing your dog's teeth is recommend to improve the breath. Oh, you wanted something easy like something to add to the food, right? Not going to happen.

There are special bones and doggie mints, but your dog may need his teeth cleaned. The tarter build up can cause bad breath. Most vets clean teeth.

We own two mini schnauzers and we brush their teeth each day (only take a couple minutes for each dog). We use a little bit of tartar control human toothpaste (they hate the doggie type) w/ permission from our vet. Works wonders.
Plus our one dog (7 yrs old) is going in for his first basic teeth cleaning this week just to get the plague & tartar off the inside of his teeth.

I recently started putting liquid chlorophyll in my dog's water. Not too much but enough that it looks the color of lime jello. At first she wouldn't drink it, but then she started to drink it and is used to it now. It has made a drastic difference in her breath.
