After it uses the bathroom once, wait a little and when the time comes to where you think it has to use the bathroom put it outside for a while and that should do it!

1-Consider that puppies usually go potty after eating, sleeping or exercising, just make sure the time it takes between eating and going potty.
2-Get a place for the puppy to go where he is safe, if you've scolded him before a private place could work. Avoid feeding or playing with your puppy in the place you want him to go potty.
3-Get a puppy crate or box where he can rest and stay, he won't be willing to soil his place, so he'll bark or yap when he needs to go out.
4-Try to prevent accidents, don't allow your puppy free at home without close supervision.
5-Give him a treat or play with him inside your home after he's done his business in the right place.
6-If you're trying to get it crate or house trained you may need to take him to his potty place in the night and early morning. It's difficult but really works!!!!

First of all, ignore the answerer that suggested scolding the dog. All that will do is teach your puppy to fear you. A puppy has to be potty trained and I'm surprised that you did not think to educate yourself before receiving a puppy. Not too late now. There are many good behavior sites on the Internet that will teach you how. So my answer to your question is: potty train it.

it depends on the age of the puppy. you can google for plenty of housebreaking info. crate training is best. do not expect results until about 5 months

Well I find that the best way is to bring it back to where it peed and just say no no no no no no!! BAD DOG!! Then every time it uses the bathroom outside say GOOD DOG! and pet him alot and sooner of later he will get the idea.
