I have just aquired a pair of mission speakers model 773 and I do not believe the sound is of the quality I have heard top speakers produce. I think it could be the Goodmans amplifier (Delta 700 A) or even the wiring or do I just need better speakers? If it is the amp, any suggestions on good ones?

Those speakers have gotten very good reviews but the amplifier you are using has gotten very poor reviews. I would definitely try a better amplifier. Some other thoughts: Make sure the speakers are wired in phase (positive to positive and negative to negative). Speakers usually have a break-in period before they have their intended sound. I don't know how long this period is for those speakers. You don't say what kind of interconnects and speaker wires you are using but they might be inadequate.

Hi there. If your speakers don't sound as good as they should then we have to start at the beginning of your system to see what is happening. The most important component of your system is the SOURCE.(CD Player,DVD Player, Tuner, and Turntable). The quality of the musical signal coming out of this first component defines the ultimate ability of your sound system.Every other component in the system merely passes on this signal with greater or less accuracy.None can enhance or improve it. The signal travels to the Preamplifier via a special cable .This cable must be of excellent quality to minimise any change in the signal before it arrives at the Preamplifier. (at this stage the signal is very very tiny)

The PREAMPLIFIER is responsible for volume adjustment, input switching, and a gain stage.Because the signal it passes is so small, any distortions it introduces are then amplified again by the main amplifier(power amplifier) which drives the speakers. The result is a number of musical distortions which are usually blamed on the power amplifier ,or the speakers,or the speaker cables, or the listening room.A higher quality Preamplifier will allow its partnered Power Amplifier and speakers to perform much closer to their capabilities.

Following faithfully behind the Preamplifier is the POWER AMPLIFIER. It's job is to move the speakers back and forth with control and accuracy while not introducing any noise or distortions to the musical signal it receives from the Preamplifier. It must amplify the full bandwith of 10 octaves with complete linearity. It must not shift phase at any frequency and it must not amplify any harmonics more than others .To do so would distort musicality andf leave you with speakers moving back and forth with a room full of sound ,but not music.

Before the signal leaves the Power Amplifier to go to the speakers it has to travel there through more cable without losing too much quality. The choice of speaker cable is really up to you as there is no agreement among audiophiles of what is the "correct" cable to use.

The last link in the chain are the LOUDSPEAKERS.Many people believe that the speakers are the most important link in the hi fi chain.Intuitively this makes sense because it is where the sound comes from .And true enough,if you change to a nicer pair of speakers a very different sound will come forth ,but remember that the SOURCE is the most important component and they can't share that honor. Speakers are probably the hardest to get right. The speakers'job is to turn that musical signal coming down the speaker wires into an acoustic event in your listening room. And there is the problem.Speakers are extraordinarily room dependant and since every room is different a speaker simply can't be designed to work predictably in every room. The larger your listening room ,the more bass your speakers will need to reproduce to properly load that space and keep the bass in balance with the higher frequencies. The tonal balance of the speakers will be affected by things such as furnishings, window treatments, floor, ceiling, and wall surfaces ,the room shape ,building construction methods and materials and of course the speakers'own dispersion pattern.

Ok .So the order of importance from beginning to end is this:

SOURCE (CD Player,DVD Player,Tuner, Turntable.)
INTERCONNECT CABLES( from source to preamplifier)
PREAMPLIFIER
POWER AMPLIFIER (or INTERGRATED AMPLIFIER)
SPEAKER CABLES
SPEAKERS
LISTENING ROOM.

If you could let me know what you are using for your souce and what cables and interconnects you have we will try to elimenate what is causing the speakers to perform badly.

now-a-day ,ppl just mostly stick with all in one box or multimedia sound system.unless one is reali into sound then amp comes in.i'think multimedia sound system work good n cheap.one can get a fairly good sound for under $100.
