Within minutes of Bush leaving office the tide will turn . . .
Much of the hatred toward Americans is actually toward the people who have hijacked our government.
There will always be people who hate America, but we don't need to bomb their children, just to prove a point.

I've been living abroad for 8 years, and I see the United States in a new light. I still think the American people are amongst the most generous in the world, but I don't think very highly of our government. Yes, it does sadden me to hear how our government loves buying and selling massive destruction weapons while children are starving in the world. The sad thing is that there are even millions of people that are suffering in the US, but they only seem to care about making a profit.

I'm not happy with Bush or the Dem's, but the enormous pile of idiocy that is displayed here, makes me worried about this country. So what percentage of your paycheck do you send to the warlords in Darfur? How much do any of you rich Americans send off to the rest of the world? I'm American, I pay taxes, and I work very hard to make ends meet.
There are just way too many foolish things said here to comment so if there are any military people or their families that end up here, thank you, and know that not every American is so misinformed and brainless.

I'm an ex-Seabee, and was in the service under Pres. Carter and then Reagan, during the Iranian hostage crisis. Remember that one?
That was back when Sunnis were the "good muslims" and Shiites were the BAD ones. Back when Saddam Hussein was our friend---yes, *friend.* Know why Bush was so sure he'd find WMDs in Iraq? WE SOLD THEM TO SADDAM. Back when Osama bin Laden was a paid CIA operative and a "freedom fighter" opposing the Russian invasion of Afghanistan . . . *sigh*
I keep feeling like I have seen all this before.
Y'know what? I think we're just not very good at this stuff. Too young, too insular, too ideological, too cocky, too ill-informed. All our chickens always coming home to roost at the least opportune time. And the current Sockmonkey in Chief, geeeeeez . . . take an outpouring of sympathy and support from around the world and turn it into vitriol, disdain, and tacit support for our newly made enemies in a matter of, literally, months. Take an overwhelming message of "Get the F*** out NOW!" from voters and send in MORE young soldiers to die. What a tool.
It's GOT to get better. It's GOT to turn around, somehow. I just hope it doesn't get any worse first.

Yes I agree with you. We are not setting a good example to the rest of the world. We should not be the ones telling others what to do if we are not willing to do it ourselves. But, we also have starving children in the U.S., do you not think that we need to feed them as well? Why can we not take care of our own health care system? Why are the insurance companies getting rich while our coverage is getting lousy?
I could think of a few ways that we could be spending the billions and billions of dollars that is going to fund this war. Just remember, vote the right person in in '08!

I too am worried about the direction that the US is heading... But for diametrically opposed reasons as you... It is *because* of our great wealth that we are hated... there are many that are jealous of our strength and power... And for all the money that you bemoan spending on defense we, as a people, spend *far* more in helping those in need around the world. Both as governmental spending and Private giving. I feel that you have little or no understanding of human suffering or how little "diplomacy" can do to lessen that suffering. When you have Jihadist that dedicate their lives to our destruction and installing a world Caliphate there is little, other than surrender, that can be done to "appease" them.

I am not a well educated woman. But you'd have to be a total idiot not to realize that we are on a path of destruction. Yes, I agree with you on every aspect. Why is it that we have to play by rules when no one else does? I think we should turn Iraq into a parking lot. I saw a program the other day where the were strapping bombs onto six year old kids. When the children chicken out, they were put in prison until they came around to another way of thinking. The are training young children to be terrorist!! Six year old children talking about killing Americans. All in the name of Christianity!!!
I personally will not have a problam picking up a rifle and blowing their friggin heads off!!!!

Well said.
Any country that spends billions to recover another countries natural resource yet cannot find the money to provide universal healthcare (like many other 1st world nations do) is indeed in trouble.
After all, the Chinese now own 36% of the US national debt. What do you think would happen if they came to collect tomorrow?

Worried? No. I agree with what you -- and most respondents -- say, but I think if Americans want America to be America again, they'll do the right thing. The whole conservative/liberal argument is silly. The conservatives (right now) are trying to get a permanent upper hand, but after 8 years of dead kids in Iraq, rising power and food bills, $3 gasoline, tax breaks for the rich, loss of liberties for women and minorities, vague distractive issues like the immigration bill, and god and Jesus running the place, folks will get tired of it. Sooner or later.

It is truly sad that I agree with you.
When Bush blatantly ignored the UN and half of Europe to invade Iraq America lost a lot of worldwide respect. The fact that he lied to the American people does not matter to the outside world. We are all judged by the obsessive actions of our president.
I am embarrassed daily by the Creation Museum and the religious right in our government. That just makes us all look like we are stupid idiots. Are there no science books in the US?
