If she is old enough to be away from her mother (six weeks or older) then she could handle wet or dry. It might be easier to entice her to eat if you mix both together for a little while, moving to finally a fully dry diet (dry food helps with poop smells). You can give milk as a treat, but dont make it a diet staple... milk will not provide all the nutrients she needs. She will need water as well, every living thing does.. but not warm, just room temperature.

For starters, don't give a cat milk, they can't digest the lactate, if you want to give her milk look for the special kitty milk at your pet store. Give her a bowl of water. The best idea for food, is to get kitten food. On a daily basis feed her dry food, and every couple of weeks or so kitten canned food. and make sure to pick a good brand of food. Such as Nutro Natural Choice, Buffalo Blue or Royal Canin. By picking a good brand of food, you are ensuring good health to you kitty for life. They may be a little more money, but if you care for your kitty enough and want her to have a long healthy life, it shouldn't matter. Also when your kitty hit the age of one year, you should switch to adult cat food.
Another way to look at it is if you can find in a grocery store, its not your top choice and probably shouldn't buy it. Lower end pet foods are to equivalent to you eating Twinkies and chips everyday. I know all this because I work at PETsMART for three years and they are constantly training to make sure their employees can offer good information. I wish you luck with your new kitty.

I had a baby kitten before and we fed her warm milk for a while. When she was ready for solid food she let us know. At that particular time she would eat the milk and then she was still hungry. So that is when we started feeding her canned food. I don't feel that hard food was the best thing to give her while she was still so little. I also called the humane society and they are the ones that told us how to care for her. Also you can buy those small preemie bottles to feed the kitten they are the best for their little mouths. I hope this helps!

Give her warm milk but mix it with a little bit of water, because milk that we drink is a bit too concentrated for kittens of that age. As for the canned food/hard food deal, give her soft food for now. But most cat foods say something like 'for kittens' on the bags/cans. That way, you don't need to worry about giving her food that her system isn't ready to digest or her teeth aren't ready to chew. Good luck with her, and kitty power!

Don't only give her only dry, we had a kitten years ago that couldn't eat the dry food well and ended up dying of malnoutrishing. There is special kitty powder formula that is not expensive and you get alot and you can make that and give her a mixture of canned/dry food in small quantities up to 4 times a day. If you do give her only dry food, put some water in it to make it easier for her to eat. Always have fresh water available along with whatever you feed her.

I am in school to be an Animal Health Technologist, and hear questions like this alot. Please, Please do not give your kitten Milk. If you give a kitten milk after she has been weaned off her mother, she can not digest the lactase in it, and it can make her sick.... so water is best. Also canned food is great, but put a bowl of hard food down (both kitten food of course) and when she is able to eat it, she will...
Hope i could help!

Don't feed her table food. Plenty of fresh water needs to be available at all times. Kitten hard food is the best, wet food is not a good food; it doesn't help their teeth at all.
Get her to the vet for her first shots and checkup. She should go when you get her and then yearly. You want to keep her healthy and happy.

hi
i give my babies (10 weeks old) a mix of pouched food (purina kitten) and dry food(purina one or go cat or james well beloved kibble) i give them cat milk which is lactose reduced as cats can't digest lactose and water. my feeding regime is as follows
meat four times a day (1/2 pouch per kitten) not at set times as in the wild cats have to hunt and are not always successful. biscuits and water down all the time so the can snack like catching insects and they get milk just before i go to bed along with their last meat meal.
