If God created pain, S/he also created empathy. But man created pain scales to measure which pain is the hardest to bear (physically).

Of course God created pain, and it is a gift. Without it we would not have much vital information, such as the fact that our appendix has just exploded or that dog who snapped at your leg broke the skin and left you bleeding. Maybe you've heard of leprosy? Those who suffer from leprosy cannot, among a few other things, feel pain. so they lose fingers, toes, etc. because they don't pay attention to simple infections or wounds and they get worse and worse. Read some of Philip Yancey's stuff like The Gift of Pain with Dr. Paul Brand.

Pain was created because Adam and Eve ate from the tree of knowledge after God told them not to. The snake that was in the tree convinced Eve that it was ok to eat from the tree and because they disobeide God, pain, suffering, hard work and all of those negatives things we experience is our punishment for disobeing God. We women have it worst because we feel the worst pain when we give birth, and those of us that have given birth know there isn't worst pain than being in labor.
you can read the story in the bible..so pick one up and start reading. Dont think I am going to tell you were in the bible you can read about that,, find out for yourself.
By the way circumcions, the pain last for a little bit, you will eventually forget about it..my son had it done when he was three and doesn't remember and believe me he remembers a lot of things.

I think we have all asked this question to ourselves when we were in pain, we would scream and shout to the heavens "why me? why do i have to deal with this pain and misery?" God, didn't "create" pain it's a "test" to make you stronger, make you have and experience that you can reflect on as a person. It's like, learning from your mistakes, because if we never learned from them we cause more suffering and pain. So, when we feel pain, we are really just getting stronger. I am speaking More mentally than physically, because yes, giving birth is probably painful but the outcome is a miracle.

After having given birth 3 times with no medication (natural childbirth), I can say with all honesty that the pain of rheumatoid arthritis is worse. Where either of the pains you mentioned will eventully go away, the pain and stiffness of RA is for life.
***Robert below me has made a good point. Kidney stones are much worse than childbirth, and unfortunately, my pregnancies brought forth kidney stones as well.
Pain is your body's way of saying that, in most cases, something is wrong. It's an excellent attention getter.

God created pain for protection. If I kept hitting something and had no pain, I could end up dead. So pain is a warning. As for your second question, I don't think anyone will be able to answer from personal experience.

God did not create pain. Pain is the negative 'side effect' of a 'lack of God' in a given situation. In the case of someone else's sin the situation is clear, the the lack of God resulted in the sin causing the pain.
In the situation where there is no sin, such as stubbing a toe, then it is the side effect of not being connected to god in that moment. To my knwoledge there are no examples in the bible of Jesus 'stubbing his toe' or similar situaitons but of c ourse Jesus on the cross is the clear example of other people's sin causing pain.
Even Jesus weaping because of Lazurus's death is a situaiton in which the lack of God's presence in Lazurus's life caused pain even in God himself. (Even if the lack of God's presence was a choice made by God. He did not cause the death of Lazarus, he only allowed it, and that is an important distinction when trying to understand the purpose of pain in our lives)
This isnt to say that God can be faulted for allowing pain, nor is it saying that God through his inaction in stopping pain is the cause of pain.
Pain itself is neither good nor evil, it is simply an expression of the current 'imbalance' in the situation.
The hardest part about accepting the idea that both God and pain exist is realizing that sometimes allowing pain is a good thing even if the cause of the pain is not.
In the simplest example, stubbing our toe though not something we would ever want to cause, the allowing of the pain of stubbing our toe causes us to be warry of protecting our toe and ultimately keep our toe safe.
In deeper situations such as loss of a friend or loved one, such as lazuras, the pain itself is a sign of the healthyness of the relationship. Though we all experience pain differently and someone may not be showing an outward sign of the pain sometimes a lack of pain in a situation can be a sign of the person needing emotional help in dealing with that situation.
I myself had a situation when I was a child where I saw my aunt in her coffin and didnt experience pain even though I was very close to her. I actually instead went catatonic. This is a severe example of how a child mind can react 'past the point of pain' to something severely traumatic.
As for giving birth or adult male circumcision, I dont know as I have experienced neither, however I have been told by countless women that in actuallty kidney stones are worse then giving birth so I am not entirely sure that it makes sense comparing two experiences that can never be experienced by the same person when there is an experience that can be experienced by the same person that is already shown to be worse then the two original experiences.
:)
Addendum:
Rereading this two things occured to me:
1) Some people might argue that if God experiences pain then how can we argue that he didnt create it? I think I should clarify that there are two aspects to pain, there is the cause of the pain and there is the experience of the pain. The 'experience' (feeling the pain) is God's way of allowing us to interact with the 'cause' of the pain.
God feels our pain because he understands what its like to be 'without God' by virtue of the father/son being seperated at the 'why has thou forsaken me' point of the crucifixion.
What I should probably clarify is that God does not cause 'lack of God' experiences. He only allows them. The pain itself is the mechanic of recognizing those lack of God experiences.
So yeah, technically God created the mechanic in much the same way that God created our ability to sense hot and cold but our ability to sense hot or cold is seperate from whether or not we are sensing a warm blanket or a hot stove, what caused the experience, and how do we react to it.
2) Was yah technically someone could experience both birth and adult circumcision via surgery but thats a bit rare and I cant picture someone actually having a baby, changing genders, and geting circumscied in that order. :)

God did not create pain, but he did create us. Physiologically, the same nerves that cause us pain, can cause us pleasure.
As for childbirth pain vs. circumcision; a woman can rationalize the pain of childbirth. A baby, however, cannot rationalize ritual mutilation of his genitals.
Maybe that's why men are so violent and angry; you are newly arrived and someone cuts off the best part of your personality.

Interesting question because no one can experience both, just like no one can experience both getting kicked in the balls and giving birth.
We need to find a man and a woman who both have the same pain threshold, and do a little experiment or two.
