Ten pounds sounds about perfect to me. The trick is to not lift to heavy so stick with your 10lb weights. By the way if you want a ripped body and not a huge buffed out body lighter weight is the way to do it. When using lighter weight do more repetitions. For example you would do 4 sets of 5 reps. That mean you lift the weight five times and take a 30 second break then lift another five reps then break, do this until your 4 sets of 5 are done then go on to work another muscle group the same way. Good luck!! remember lighter weight will make you look ripped heavy weight will make you look bulky!

My brother is 10 years old, and he also wants to weight lift. My advice to both you and my little brother is the same. Instead of lifting weights, why don't you go outside and have some fun with your friends? It's a lot healthier for someone your age, and a lot more fun too.
To answer your question on height, I doubt it will affect your height unless working out is the only thing you do all day.

Yes it can, everyone else answering is just speaking of there own knowledge, without research.
If you actually work-out fulltime, you can stunt your growth because your hormones will be working to gain muscle mass and develope them faster than normal. This will speed up the muscle developement, but slow the developement of your entire body, hence the stunting of your growth, which will ultimately shorten your final height after puberty.
My advice: wait till you are about 16-17 or maybe a bit older to lift weights for real. You will be able to get better results and will be taller than you would if you start now.
If you wait till you are a bit older, your body will have more natural hormone production and you will naturally be able to lift more, which would aid in your muscle developement much more rather than lifting at age 12.
Just go outside and have fun with your family and friends as others have stated...it is more healthier for you at that age.

I have not read anything that says that weight lifting stunts your growth. Just do some research to make sure you are doing these exercises correctly in order to avoid injury. And for any strength training routine, make sure to rest one day in between sessions.

nah you won't be stunted.
see if you can talk to your school nurse or gym teacher for some tips and advice on how much to start with and go from there.
don't over do it and make sure you still eat healthy. no starving yourself in hopes that will help you gain muscles.
