They are great. I have one in my dogs. One day someone opened my fence and my dog went for a walk while I was at the mall. I got a call on my cell that someone had found her, called them and they immediately called me with the people's information so I could go get her. Plus if your dog is stolen, vets check now and the chip will show that the dog belongs to you. It is very cheap to register $15 but vets charge to insert it, mine is $45 to insert. It is suppose to last throughout their life and so far, I have had 3 dogs ( 1 - 70lb, 1- 20lb and 1- 60lb)with it and none show any problems at all. It is up on top of the shoulder blade like where they give shots. I always remind my vet it is there so the needle doesn't accidentally touch it.

1) definitely
2) less than $100 and many humane societies offer low cost chipping
3) the entire life of the dog
4) They are inserted under the skin between the shoulder blades with a big needle. It feels just like a shot. My dog didn't even know he had it done and neither did I for that matter. Vets are well trained to put them in. It will only inhibit him from being returned to you if he runs away and anyone finds him.

I think they are a great idea . They are small and relatively painless , injected just under the skin . You would have to call your vet a price the procedure each vet is different . Many breeders and show dogs owners have it done . You can also add information like if the dog has a medical condition and needs medication in case he gets lost .It would not harm or inhibit your dog in any way .

Both of my dogs have chip ID's. They are usually inserted by a vet or rescue organization. You can usually find a rescue group or the humane society who will chip your dog for about $25.00. It's great to have one on your pet if he should get lost most vets or humane societys have the reader and can call the chip company and find out who the dog belongs to. They last the lifetime of the dog and it doesn't inhibit our dog in any way. They are about the size of a uncooked grain of rice and are inserted between the shoulder blades by a needle injection. It doesn't hurt them either. Good investment.

Yes, they are worth it. Normally it runs around $30 - $35. It should last forever. If it is correctly inserted, your dog will not even know it's there. The only caution is if it's a toy breed. Make sure the vet has lots of experience with the tiny dogs as it is possible to go too deep and harm the dog.

All my animals are microchipped. It costs about $50 for the vet to do it (some humane societies and clinics do it for a discount) plus a one-time fee of $10 to register, usually with Home Again, which is the most common chip service. They last for the life of the animal. They are great if your animal is lost or stolen and no longer has its collar and ID tags. Almost all county shelters, humane societies and vets now have chip readers, so the chances are recovering your pet are much higher. Also labs doing animal research are required by law to screen pets for microchips, so if your dog was stolen for that purpose, your odds of recovery are much higher.
It doesn't affect the animal in any way and you can't see it or feel it.

Yes, they are worth it. I work for an emergency clinic, and we have had several dogs over the past two years that where brought in by "good Samaritans" who found them injured. Thanks to responsible pet owners who had them chipped, we were able to contact the owners within minutes of their arrival. I am sure every one of those owners would tell you that it is worth it.
Not only can you give your personal information for the chip registry, but you can also state any medical problems your dog may have, rewards offered if found, and medications your dog is on. Both of my dogs are chipped. It is also important to have a collar and tag. Chips are great because dogs can lose their tags. Also, it takes literally minutes for someone to scan your dog, write the chip number, get on-line and find the owners phone number.
Ask your veterinarian for brochures. There are different companies. I use Avid. It has a one-time fee in addition to the cost of the chip itself. You only have to pay another fee if/when you change information such as address and phone number.

One of my dogs is chipped, (she came that way) I certainly recommend it. It's well worth it, it lasts a lifetime and it will not inhibit your dog in any way.

YES, very very worth it. Some vets charge $25.00 some $50.00 but what is your pet worth? If it is lost, they can scan the chip and call you. It saved our $1200.00 bulldog.
