I go hiking with this group of people. After a few months of lay off, I met this girl and we talked for almost the entire hike, except at the end. Both her and I used to live in the same town and we made a lot of connections about that and other things.
When I said, "I hope I see you again." She said, in a subdued voice,"Yeah....um....I hope so." I didn't see her again on the next hike or any following hikes for several months. I learned later that she was in the process of moving. She only moved 40 miles away. Next week they told me they're going on a hike that's like all day this time and 50 miles away. They said she might be there. Now, if it's just about the hike I'd rather not go. It's too long and too far away and I have other things I'd rather be doing. But the chance of hooking up with this girl is there. But given her lukewarm response when I said goodbye to her, and the fact that she hasn't shown up for any of the other hikes, I wonder if it's worth it.

Hate to burst the bubble, but yeah, given her reaction, don't waste your time. Seriously.....

If she likes you as you like her...then my dear man....what you said may have seemed vague and ambiguous to her!

If a man said to me "I hope I see you again".....I may view that, as a woman, as being a polite way of saying: "goodbye, see you around, I think you are nice but you're not special enough for me to ask to meet up again soon" . This lady may view you as being not particularly struck with her ......

She, IMO went subdued because she did not know how to take what you said to her. Was it a brush off?, politeness? etc or.....was he indicating he might like me?......

Didn't you really mean to communicate that.... I'd love to see you again? ?? Maybe she did not hear it the way you intended! The tragedy of miscommunication between the sexes...lol, but I digress....

Back to your question...Should I try again? ABSOLUTELY!!!!

So.............get yourself to that Hike young man.
Then ask for her email Addy. (email is not as threatening as giving out phone numbers etc and lets the chit chat evolve)

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
