It's not like some of the other varieties of long grain either. It's not gummy or grainy. What are your thoughts?

Indian Basmati rice is so good! Despite the fact that you may have to soak it and cook it longer than Minute Rice, it tastes better and it still stays at least somewhat moist if you have to refrigerate leftovers. If you have an Aldi by you, they sell some really good Indian Basmati rice. I do love sticky rice, but it can be pretty labor intensive. I've only had white Basmati rice, but I guess you can get brown Basmati. Either way, I think it would be very tasty.

Well, basmati is a type of rice that is longer grained and that's why it seems more fluffy to you.
I can't really compare short grained to basmati because I use them for different things. I really wouldn't want to use basmati for sushi rice while the short grain would work, and I wouldn't want short grain for rice to go with stir-fries or pilafs when basmati would do the best job.
I do like basmati rice though, and find vast differences in it from brand to brand. For a less expensive but good value for basmati, I would recommend Tilda brand basmati.

I like Basmati rice... but it makes lousy risotto. Yes, I know, you're supposed to use medium or even short grained rice for risotto, but the Basmati was all I had!

They're all the same to me. I like brown rice a lot but I tend to go half and half with it and white rice for the flavor and the texture. Brown rice is not as tender as white rice which is why I mix it up.

I love it! It's the only rice I eat unless I get Chinese take-out. There's over 10 pounds of it in this house right now.

My gf and I switched to Basmati rice. It has a very aromatic nutty flavor to it. Very good, and cheap too!
