Turning black into white would take far too much time and money and would most likely not happen. If it were the other way around yes, but in this case i think you may be out of luck. Find a place you can resell your dress (there are a lot of places that take used prom dresses) OR better yet donate it to an organization that provides the dresses to under privledged girls so that they can have a prom. Plus a wedding dress should be unique and special...not just some chopped up version of a prom dress.
Good luck!

No, I am sorry, but absolutely not. However, you could look into doing something like adding a different color overskirt. Like in tulle or sheer silk, so that it lays over the existing skirt. I don't know the style of the dress so it is hard to tell you exactly what would work. Or adding a lot of white lace and beading. Do you or (someone in your family) know how to sew? If not, you can find a tailor/alterations shop that could help you for less than the cost of a new dress.
You can never turn a black dress into a white dress. But there are ways to change the overall look of a dress to give an impression of a different color or style.
Try looking in magazines for ideas. Keep an eye out for dresses in a similar style that look like you could create from your prom dress by adding to it.

I don't think you can dye a black dress white without it becoming spotty or just plain ruined. Are you planning on using your prom dress as a wedding gown? Is the dress short or long? If it is a long gown, you can have it shortened to have as a cocktail dress. You can take it to a seamstress to see if she can change up the bead work also, or add some. As for wearing it as a wedding dress...I think when that time comes, your prom dress is going to be the last thing on your mind.

I think it is very pretty. Just because it is advertised as a prom/pagent dress doesn't mean that is the only time it could be worn. I wore a long white dress of the rack and so did two of my sisters. We saved a lot of money what was better spent on other things.

My suggestion is to keep the prom dress and wear it at some one else's wedding. There are few chances of getting it dyed white (go to a company that dyes fabrics to find out for sure) and that means you'll have to buy a wedding dress, and ruin the prom dress too. And since you are gonna pay pretty much on a wedding gown, wouldn't it be a pitty to lose another gorgeous dress?

No you cannot dye a black dress to white. Totally impossible. You can get a lovely simple white dress for a few hundred dollars...jessicamcclintock.com, dillards.com, gownfind.com, dessy.com. There are so many websites that have inexpensive prom type gowns that could be worn as wedding gowns in white.

You may have been able to dye from white to black, but not the other way. Most fabrics that prom gowns are made of are not able to stand up to bleaching. The beading will not stand up to bleach either, it will fade to an odd color if the threading doesn't just fall apart.
Sorry, but you are either going to have to find another way to wear the black gown (maybe a fancy New Years Eve party?) or just look at it in your closet because you won't be wearing it to your white wedding.

Black is very hard to overdye, and the lighter you try to go, the more it's just going to ruin the dress. This can be particularly true with some synthetic fibers, and most prom dresses on the market are made primarily with synthetic fibers.
Save the prom dress for some other function and get something else to be married in.

You'll probably ruin the dress if you try to.
You can find tons of cheap wedding gowns if you try to. I originally was going to get mine from a flea market. I know that sounds sort of weird but, there was a bridal shop there with brand new dresses, veils, shoes, ring bearer tuxedos, flower girl dresses, etc. - All for half of what other places cost. I ended up getting almost everything but my dress there. I got my dress from a little botique called Brookes Bridal. The dress was originally over four hundred dollars but, I got it for $250.
If you want to wear your prom dress again, why not wear it for your bachelorette party or at your bridal shower? You can have all your bridesmaids dress up so that you aren't the only one.
