Did you ever wonder why when pastors come out of Pentacostal seminary that they can all do that slain in the spirit thing? That just doesn't set right with me. Don't get me wrong. I love to worship at Pentacostal churches. And I speak in tongues privately. I don't believe they all have this "gift" before they enter seminary, but they all or most have it after. Spiritual gifts shouldn't be based on whether you went to bible school or not. They should be given to those the Spirit chooses to give them to. It just doesn't seem right to me. What do you think? And feel free to state your opinion on being "slain in the Spirit" because it's not biblical and that doesn't set right in me either.

I didn't say that only pastors have spiritual gifts. But they all slay in the spirit. The parishoners don't.

Theatrics are learned in Bible college.

God confers the Holy Spirit freely, not depending on whether or not you paid tuition or went to the right school.

I have never read anything about being slain in the spirit in the Bible and I have worked professionally in ministry for 37 years. Go figure.

And you are right, no one should speak in tongues publicly unless there is someone there to intepret. Scripture says this clearly.

Religious one-upmanship is an abomination to the Lord.

Actually God does not only give the gifts to those he chooses, He gives them to all that truly seek them and ask for them. I can't assume to know what each person in seminary asks for or believes because I know for example that many Christian sects believe in speaking in tongues and other Christian sects do not. I would think seminary students would be praying for and asking God for the gift to slay in the spirit, but they are not the only ones able to do so. Many spiritual people have this gift and other gifts of the Holy Spirit who are not ordained ministers, you just usually only see the pastor of a church performing such religious acts. As far as being slain in the spirit, yes I agree with it because I have been a few times and I know the spiritual feeling it has caused within me. If the gifts were only for seminary students then there wouldn't be so many lay persons with the gift. I have the gift of speaking in tongue because I prayed and asked for it and I have never attended seminary. I hope my opinion helps in some way and a great question you asked.

I don't know, I can't speak in tongues (I haven't really tried) but I do think the Pentecostals are a bit crazy. I mean things like trembling and rolling on the floor saying you feel the presence of the Holy Spirit.... those things are just kind of crazy and mock the Spirit.

Most folk with charismatic Gifts of the Spirit don't go to seminaries and I know of no denomination that limits the Gifts to the clergy.

Speaking is tongues is not evidence of the Holy Spirit either. Anyone can speak in tongues. It is a taught thing.
