I usually put a spoon in the jar. I have some smaller spoons that are supposed to be for fancy tea, but I use one for jelly. It falls off the knife too easy. Once it is on what ever you are putting the jelly on, the knife does come in handy.

It depends on what you are serving with it. For example, biscuits really need a knife because you have to split them open and spread on the jelly. Toast is already flat so a spoon can work fine for spreading jelly on toast. I use a knife to spread jelly most of the time because its what I reach for most.

I have always used a spoon. I have seen my kids use a knife and watch the jelly fall of it onto the counter. When using a spoon the jelly stays on it and there is no mess.

Use a sppon, it is much easier to scoop the jelly out, unless it is toast, use a knife.
