No, I think it's a universal problem - the world trusts administrators and assistants to get the job done quickly, efficiently and securely, but they seem to be unwilling to pay a lot of money for the processing.

I think you'll find that people with degrees may well start at your company doing admin for a time (it's the best way to learn everything that a company or organisation does), but they are bound for better things and higher wages.

SO GO GET YOURSELF A DEGREE TO COMPETE!!! (colleges / Universities do evening classes)

I make decent money compared to other jobs classified as admin assts in my location. However, many are requiring bachelors degrees these days (and these aren't the ones that typically advertise pay range) so I'm sure the pay scale will go up a bit for those with four year degrees.

Actually, it really depends on where you work as an Admin assistant. Big cities...more money. Administrative experience is good to have but I haven't heard of any admin asst making great money.

How much you make will depend on where you work, who you work for (what level is your boss - 1st level manager, director, VP), and how much responsibility you have. Having a business admin degree would be more for someone who would be a director level or above as they would be running an entire department. Check out salary.com to see what admins are making in your area.

I have found it does depend if it's a small company, medium or large one. The more skills you have the better off you are. I only have an AS degree as an administrative professional but am proficient in the MS suite stuff. My jobs (currently looking) are all over the place with what my skills can get me as an admin.
Advice? learn as much as you can and work your way up.
Good luck to us all.

There is definite income potential for administrative assistants, but it varies by many factors. These include: the level of the individual(s) you assist, the size, type, and location of the company where you are employed, your title (executive assistant, etc.), and the amount of responsibility you carry.

On average, Administrative Assistants in the may earn $29 - 44,000. They earn more in New York and California.
