Love your family unconditionally, no matter what. God is of oneness. There should never be a reason not to be with them. I'm sure the verse is taking out of context. The reason Jesus was crucified is because He did not obey the laws the scribes put on people . They would say " How could He go into a house of sinners" Jesus came to save not to condemn.

You are taking one verse and taking it out of context. The Bible also states that anyone who forsakes his or her family is abhorrent to the Lord.
For those who don't know, this verse says that when you give a feast, invite the poor rather than your family and rich friends who can pay you back.
Invite your family.
The Bible tells you to love others. This includes your family.
Have a good afternoon.

In such a case as this, you'd probably get a better response by posting the passage. Thus saving people the extra effort of looking it up. (You still can, by "adding details." And I can still respond, by using "edit.")
Thanks to you and "StormDevil" for filling in the blanks. Looking at all of this, I'd guess that this might be one of those cases where something else in the context may be an important factor. By itself, it doesn't jibe with what Jesus, Himself, did.

"13 But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”
But they can invite you...the lame.

Peace be with you, it is sometimes hard following the Word of God, but Jesus said "my brothers, and sisters, and mother are these which hear the word and do it.
I have forsaken my own children, because they believe not in the Word of God, and I do all that Jesus commanded. But I pray for them that they should know God in their Season.
I follow only the Words Jesus spoke, not Paul, Peter, Moses, the prophets or anyone else.

Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind;
blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."
Where does it say NOT to invite someone? It doesn't

When Jesus spoke to people he spoke in illustrations, In fact he never spoke to groups of people with out the illustration.
You could say it like this:
If some poor one knocked on your door and wanted to share spiritual food with you, but you said no thanks I have my own religion, meaning you are quite satisfied with your rich thinking and your rich religious friends. and you don't share.
It never dawned on you that maybe when mankind goes knocking on his creators door and the door opens and you see the poor one in the back ground, but you are not allowed in.
The point is the door of your heart needs to be open to all, your loved ones and your neighbors, and the poor and depressed . but most important, your food needs to be spiritual.
You need to listen to your creator and gain accurate knowledge,(John 17:3) then once you have the knowledge you need to share and help people and especially the ones who are starving for spiritual food.
If you close your door, then be assured God's door will be closed to you.

It's Luke 14:12 idiot
Oh, if you do invite all the poor, maimed, lame, and blind in your neighborhood, then I'll take back the 'idiot' part.

I love it how people love taking the bible out of context. Did Jesus not eat with his own apostles, his own family, his own friends? Yes he did. This scripture is only telling us not to forget the less fortunate ones. Not to disown our family in favor of them.
