Call up some Floor refinishers that advertise in your local Pennysavers. Give them measurements of rooms you want done and they will give you a general idea what it would cost. I would estimate that a whole house except den, would cost you in the area of $2,000 or more.

are you refinishing the wood or replacing?
shop around some contractors that do refinishing... some also can replace. should be in your yellow pages or in your local newspapers in the services section of the classifides.
if you are handy you can diy. we just refinished my dining and living rooms over a few day period.
you can check lowes, home depot, and flooring stores for pricing/sales. check contractor liquidator stores for sales too.
habitat for humanity has some stores around where they sell left overs too.

We're doing it ourselves, one room at a time. It's not that hard, but it takes time & patience.
There's nothing like looking at that gorgeous floor, and knowing YOUR hard work is what made it so beautiful!
