It's because they feel guilty themselves, and need something to make them feel less guilty. Like when people drink or take drugs to escape from their own issues. Instead of fixing the problems in their own lives, they transfer the guilt to others, and it makes them feel better about themselves for a while, until the guilt comes back, so they come back and get abusive all over again, and the cycle goes on and on. It's an addiction.

Same reason so many Muslim's and Jews and Mormons and Hindu and Scientologists do... and School Teachers and Bankers and Police and anyone who wants to control you.

Guilt is a great way to try to get people to atone for their sins and do some good in the world. For society not to collapse people need to think of more than themselves. If we just did what was in our own self interest with no thought for the future, half of us would be serial rapists. And our society would be traumatized and we would get nothing done. Don't laugh- such socieities exist.

It is not about trying to make others feel guilty. It is about everyone realizing that they are sinners. The bible says ALL have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. It also says that all sin is the same in God's eyes. So if you steal an expensive pair of shoes and I steal a five cent piece of gum, I am still just the same as you : guilty of stealing.

Yes, sometimes those who represent Christ do get a "rise" out of putting down others. This is contrary to what their God, Who loves all, commanded them to do. He said, "If you do not love others whom you can see, then how can you claim to love God Whom you can't?" However, may I say if a Christian desires to really follow in the footsteps of Jesus, He or She will not be able to stop loving others, even when they are hated by those whom they love. I do hope that someday you do experience the latter, if you haven't already.

Then, there's another possible answer to your question. Isn't it quite possible that it's really not the Christian that you don't like, but what He or She stands for and Whom he or she follows? I ask this knowing that I have had experiences where I hated the person because of what they believed and practiced, full well knowing that that is exactly what Jesus told them to believe and how to act! And I'm a Christian!

Well they shouldn't, that totally negates the whole reason for Christ and his precious perfect unlimited mercy. Most of us christians, didn't come by it easy.. there ultimately was an unbearable suffering and we were humbled from our pain humbly picked up a bible, trying as we may to find some sort of reason for our unfathomable pain... once we started reading in the new testament, we found great comfort in the mercy that God bestowes so gracefully upon us. I can remember tears pouring and pouring and pouring down my cheeks at the complete love and mercy God has given us... where anyone gets off twisting Gods word and making it cruel and punishing is just sick.

If you feel guilty you feel guilty. To say that someone else magically gave you guilt is psyccologically unsound. Maybe when you are around Christians you feel guilt and instead of you dealing with your guilt you blame them for how you are feeling.

These are people who only feel good about themselves if they can make someone else feel inferior. These Christians follow Christ right up to the door of the church and leave their souls outside

Beats me. I'm a Christian, and there are some Christians who try to make ME feel guilty. I ignore them. You are in control of your beliefs. Maybe it makes them feel superior in some way. Some of them are truly honest in thinking they are doing the right thing in being "preachy." They are misguided, IMO.
