I go to a privare school that does not allow piercings, and this summer i got my lip pierced, i know that I can wear a clear retainer, but do they really work...i cant let my school know that i got my lip pierced because they will make my take it out. my friends say that you can still see the retainers when they are in your lip. i'm not sure what i should do.

How noticable your retainer will be depends on the type of retainer you use and what kind of lip piercing you have.
I have a vertical labret, and I'm using a quartz retainer from bodyartforms.com: http://bodyartforms.com/productdetails.asp?ProductID=1943
Its very hard to see, I wore it in front of my parents and they never noticed. Use glass for a fresh piercing (younger than 2 months!!) Once your piercing has healed, you can use a lucite retainer - http://bodyartforms.com/productdetails.asp?ProductID=131 - this can be cut to a better fit length. Also, you can dab a bit of nail polish the color of your lips on the disks of either retainer and it will be even less noticable.
If you have a single-hole lip piercing, I would suggest this retainer - http://bodyartforms.com/productdetails.asp?ProductID=2418 - just don't use the metal gem and cut the bioplast plastic to fit. Bioplast is also safe to use on an unhealed piercing.
If someone is really scrutinizing your face, you probably won't be able to hide it completely, but these will make your piercing hard to notice offhand.

At this point the only thing you can do is get the clear retainer. You knew when you got the piercing that the school wouldn't allow it.....also, dear, there is a spell check button. Please use it. IF you go to a private school, they are set up to be better than public school. You knew what you were gettijng in to. Need I preach on? Just be glad it's not Catholic School! Those Nuns are MEAN!!! Put the clear retainer in during school, don't play with it and don't say anything about having one. More then likely they may not even notice...

I think you should but the clear thing in and hope that no one will notice.
then if someone tells you to take it out then I guess you will have to but it's better to try then not at all if you know what I mean.

clear retainers still show, my workplace made me take mine out.I wore a bandaid over it until it was healed enough to take out for the time I am working
