Cut and wash first. Put in a baggie. You can take a straw and place at one end of the baggie seal the rest of the baggie and suck the air out through the straw and seal the baggie where the straw was. This will help it stay good a lot longer. If you don't have a straw any type of plastic tube you can use. The air is what is going to make it go bad faster. Then refrigerate. Hope this helps.

The first thing I do is chop off the tops and put them in a ziplock to be used later for stock. The stalk then gets wrapped in a paper towel and put in the crisper too. I've kept mine good for at least 2 weeks this way. And those tops last practically forever!

You want to keep it refrigerated, of course, and you also want to keep it moist but not wet. Take it out of the plastic bag and wrap one paper towel around it. Then put it in the fridge--in the vegetable crisper if you have one. It will last longer this way than in its plastic bag. (They also make special plastic bags for veggies that have lots of little holes in them. Those work good, but the paper towel is cheaper and easier, and just as good. Try it and you'll see!)

When you first buy it... clean it, well drain or dry it with paper towel, then cut it in half or pieces as you choose and put in a ziploc bag and store in the frig. This will help it last 2wks or so.
