I recently got married. A friend's date (who I had never met before) wore a long white dress to my wedding. Luckily I was wearing a light gold wedding dress! I laughed and dismissed it in my head, but my friends are still making jokes about it months later which I find amusing! Was this a henious offense? (In addition, it was a winter wedding. Traditionally white should not be worn after Labor Day.)

Yes! It's VERY offensive--even if you go by "white shouldn't be worn after Labor Day"--which is more about PANTS instead of white anywhere, it's not classy.

When my sister-in-law got married, her her mother-in-law wore a VERY white gown that made HER the center of attention.

Forget the Labor Day rule. I find it quite rude for a guest at a wedding to wear a long white dress (as this is what most brides wear).

My mother always told me that when you go to a wedding, don't try to make yourself up too much, because the focus should be on the bride. A guest wearing a long white dress usually distracts from the bride, which I find very rude.

However, I'm glad that it didn't offend you :)

Whether before or after Labor Day, it's still poor taste. The general rule of thumb is NEVER to wear a white dress to a wedding!

I think subconsciously the date wanted some attention to be thrown her way, and by the sound of the fuss your friends are still making over it, she did exactly that. If a guest insists on wearing something white to a wedding, that is their choice, but they should add some color to the ensemble so as not to draw attention away from the bride.

Yes because it as though that person is trying to draw attention to them when it should be on the couple getting married. I'm only 15 but I refuse to wear a white dress, mine's is going to be red. On the invitation it will say,"The Bride ask that you do not wear red because her dress will be red, anyone who proceeds to wear red will look extremely tacky and should be dismissed." No I'm just joking.

No one should wear a complete white dress at the wedding except the bride, if she so chooses, even at a non-traditional, no-rules wedding. That's just a subliminal scream for attention on someone else's day.

um i think if the bride has got married or has kids and the bride decides to wear a diffrent color wedding dress and the guest knows she will not be wearing white I guss a white sundress but nothing long and you should wear like a red belt around it to distract the eye from like OMG white dress at a wedding!

It's very tacky. All the focus should be on the bride, and wearing white traditionally competes with her.

I agree that it's poor taste - and kudos for you for not letting it bother you. My husband and I have always said, we don't understand why some people do things the way that they do. I was always taught that white at a wedding was taking away from the bride on her and her groom's big day.

thankfully you didnt wear a white dress. i would have been choked. as long as you were good with it and your friends have a new source of entertainment who cares. you can only hope that you dont have to see her again, or next time spill some wine on her dress so she cant wear it again.
