I was in the pharmacy the other day behind a woman giving the technician a hard time because she did not want to pay her medicaid copay. There was no need for this spectacle because the technician obliged and "waived" the copay. This is the only insurance where this can be done in NYS. I just feel that by the government allowing these copays to be waived, they are teaching people to manipulate, take advantage, and not manage their money. Granted, some people truly don't have the 50 cents, but many do and choose to squander it on others things.

if they have the ability to waive the fee then they should do it for everyone and not just some! whats the point of paying the copay if it can be waived!

According to HIPAA,waiving a copay for one patient is considered "discrimination" against the others...

Not to mention, there's SO much medicaid fraud in NY that I just burns me up when other people get a free ride on my dime. (and yes, I DO drop a dime on those who roll up in a Bentley and give me a Medicaid card!!)

You don't understand the medicaid mentality. They feel they are entitled to get medication for free. Free means totally free in their minds. I am a pharmacist in Texas and let me assure you that when it comes to co-pays and me, the patient has two choices: pay the co-pay or take their prescription some where else. They can throw the biggest fit in the world but I am not afraid to hand them back their prescription and tell the to leave and not come back.
