At 12 I don't recommend dieting. If you were 100 pounds overweight, I would but at 15 pounds you don't need to.
Just eat enough fruits and veggies, stop when you get full, and exercise. That's it.
You're going to grow into those extra pounds--trust me.

What is your weight now? My son is 12. He weighs 130 and is 5'3. He looks very lanky now and he was always overweight by at least 15 lbs. Puberty played a huge part in him slimming out, but so did exercise. We had a trampoline in our backyard and he was on that thing for hours a day. He is the worst eater (he doesn't like meat or veggies). How active are you? Maybe you start start jogging rather than dieting. You are still young and dieting might be harmful to proper growth. Eating healthy just means to eat proper nutritional foods (such as fruits, veggies, lean meats). Stay away from fast foods as much as possible, but try the exercise first. Walking or jogging even just 1-2 miles per day will help you considerably. Good luck!

Avoid sugar rich foods and drinks as well as fat. You are growing, so you can't just stop eating some specific items that may be necessary for healthy growth, you should only make sure you don't eat too much. Try eating smaller quantities, for example 6 or seven smaller meals a day instead of eating a lot 3 or 4 times a day. Try also doing some exercise. But don't kill yourself with exercise, okay? In your age, it's very easy to lose 15 pounds. Anyway, don't forget you are always growing so your current weight will be the perfect one in a year or two.

Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Nothing other than water in between. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. Chew each morsel at least 32 times to activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.
Take light exercises and brisk walks regularly preferably twice a day.
U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time. Do not be in a hurry.

I'm 12 too, and what I would do is stop eating junk food. Doing that altogether will help lose a few pounds. And did you know that jumproping for 20 minutes burns 400 calories? Start making goals to burn ATLEAST 200 calories per day.

Because of your age, there are several carbohydrates and proteins your body needs to stay healthy. I would recommend that you simply stay away from complex sugars contained in candy and sodas. Drink lots of water, eat plenty of lean meats and green vegetables. Stay away from the starches such as breads and potatoes. Try to do some physical activities and you will lose the weight. I guarantee it!

Don't start to diet, start top exercise, walk, run, swim, bike - these will make you leaner and will make you feel better. Reducing your calorie intake while continuing to watch tv and play on the computer will make you feel more lethargic.
