Christian and Islamic faiths? I have seen many websites, monitored by both Christian and Muslim leaders together showing the similarities of the faiths and I have seen some Christian people on this site speak about the similarities. I'm curious to know just how many pastors actually discuss in a positive manner those similarities. Does your pastor ever "preach" or discuss the positive aspects of Muslims or do they speak negatively of them?

It hasn't been discussed too much in my church, other than to say that we have no right to discriminate against Muslims because of 9/11 or any other reason, but I did hear an Episcopal priest addressing these issues, pointing out similarities. The local Episcopal church also hosts interfaith dialogues to foster understanding between Christians and Muslims (and other religions, as well). Also, I attended a lecture in which a Muslim also discussed similarities between Muslim and Christian culture.

I've attended church since I was a child and have never heard a sermon or discussion on the similarities or differences between Christianity and Islam. In these days you would think there would be.

Our minister, or any of the church leadership, never discusses other religions. I don't think they know enough about them to compare. And they are too busy studying about OUR faith to worry about something we don't believe. There may be some things that are similar but the Christian faith is based on Jesus and His sacrifice. Islamic faiths do not believe this (I don't guess) or we'd all be in the same church building on Sunday. We just focus on the God of Abraham and His Son.

Yes, the priest in my church has mentioned the positive aspects of the 5 Pillars and what Judaism,Christianity and Islam have in common and he has also mentioned the persecution of Christians and other minorities in Islamic lands and some of the differences between the Islamic and Christian faiths and why we believe what we do as Catholic Christians(Trinity,Diety of Christ, salvation by the death of Christ,Original Sin,Crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, use of holy images).

My priest has mentioned that Christians and Muslims have the One God of Abraham, honor of Prophets like Moses, holy places like Jerusalem, the Virgin Birth and second Coming of Jesus, honoring Mary/Mariam, the Last Judgement and many other things in common.

Congratulations on your open techniques and interest interior the early background of Christianity. The efficient Christian author and non-denominational pastor Lee Strobel, alongside with a lot of his colleagues, shares your interest interior the writings of the Fathers of the Church. They settled very almost each and every question approximately scripture being asked on the instant interior the 1st few hundred years of the church. My wager is that Strobel and buddies have been interested in the Fathers for the real background of the early Christians, which has been grossly distorted via Dan Brown for his accepted novels and flicks. i substitute into in Rome over the Christmas holiday journeys and visited the catacombs of St. Callista. It substitute right into a efficient journey. there have been excursion publications for English speaking travellers, as properly as Spanish, Germans, Dutch, and of path Italian audio gadget. We observed the grave of St. Cecilia who substitute into martyred for her faith in Christ and obedience to his ethical regulations. The catacombs have been the burial places for Christians outdoors the partitions of Rome, no longer hiding places. Had Christians concealed interior the catacombs, they could have been actually hunted down and thrown to the lions. Cheers, Bruce

Other faiths are never discussed. The religions have turned God into a competitive business. Does Coke ever mention its similarities to Pepsi?

Personally I know of no positive similarities. Islam came
along some seven hundred years after Christ to call him
everything but the Son of God.

I doubt many do, as the Christian and Muslim faith really isn't all that similar, it's really not the same god, the stories are different in both books, and the whole Jesus thing. The Jesus in Islam is kind of a jerk, he made someone else die in his place and went away laughing. Both have their basis in Judaism, but both have different beliefs.

My sect rarely (if ever) compares itself even to other Christian sects, much less Islam. We preach what we believe; if someone wants to know about the Baptist faith, let him attend a Baptist worship service. If someone wants to know about Islam, let him go to the mosque.
