This is a hard one because the generally it is wrong to lie.
Although possibly if it is something to help someone feel better or maybe comfort them in some way it can be acceptable sometimes- however you shouldn't lie to get your own way or to use and mistreat someone!
Hope that helps a little!

Yes, it all depends on the circumstances. If you are lying about something superficial, sure. If you are lying about cheating on someone, no. My friend bought the ugliest house I have ever seen. Rather than tell her that I thought it was ugly, I found things I liked about it to mention. I think that was "lying" but there was no reason to hurt her feelings.

The trouble with lying is one lie leads to another lie.
If this is just something you dont' want to hurt feelings you can circumvent the truth but outright lying always works out for the worse.

Well if its a harmless white lie to spare someones feelings for example saying they look great when they don't, thats fine, but not to the extreme of so called 'protecting someone' by not telling them their partner is unfaithful etc then no absolutely not . .

i stick to the view that if by telling the truth to someone WILL NOT result in anything positive for myself AND the other person, then it's not worth introducing all that drama.
mind you, this only works if you are 99.9% sure that they will never find out and you are 100% positive that you are considering all this in the best interest of the both of you, not just your own vested interest.

When I was younger in elementary school (years ago) I had a teacher who helped me to remember this quote which is
"Excuses are monuments of nothingness that builds bridges to nowhere, those that use them are masters of incompetence"
I hope that answers your question.

Yes, if you lied to stop their feelings being hurt by finding out the truth. A good friend will forgive you that.

not really some people lie to protect others but i think it best to be true full but caring..only lie in rare cases when it would do no good for the person to know cos nothing would change but how hurt they would be..

Not really...but sometimes it pays to be not too forthcoming with the truth. If can can save someone a lot of hurt, then just be honest and not too explicit

there is not excuse for lying.
"good" lies.. bad lies.. same thing...
thre is no excuse at all.
the fact that society wants to make lying a normal thing does not mean its acceptable..
that is my opinion.
