I liked it when it was on.But it isn't a patch on the Shield in my opinion. It was good to have a new series start here in the UK
last night.Looking forward to the rest.

Yes, I would say. I don't know if today's viewers would appreciate Hill Street Blues because of the lack of violence, language, nudity and all the other things writers and TV uses nowadays to attract viewers. That show was a more gentle version of a police drama. If it doesn't show someone getting blown away or have some scantily clad woman in the first segment of the show, chances are the show will be canceled after a few episodes. Sex and drama sells these days. People wonder why our children are killing each, other as well as anybody else, who gets in their way.

I loved Hill Street Blues, watched a couple of the others that followed, but the cameraman had been on the booze I am sure , as the camera work was all over the place, made my eyes hurt.

Yeah this show was great,it launched how many T.V. shows for Steven Bochco? Great theme song, strong characters from Mick the detective to Pizza man(Furillo). It has one of my favorite TV episodes of all time where Furillo wants a gang member who has killed a police officer and pulls in the gangs and threatens to bring the hammer down on their ranks if he's not delivered to the prescient in 24 hours. A very young David Caruso plays the leader of the Irish gang but another actor who was taken from us in a car accident 15 years ago portrayed FROG the leader of the Hispanic gang and to this day one of my favorite all time T.V. characters. In this series he would always address Capt Furillo as Yo Frankie and at the end of this episode he is standing in a phone booth watching squad cars descend on the location of the wanted gang member and as he watches them put the gang member in the squad cars he says into the phone receiver" You owe me Frankie. "
But what I liked most about this show was the way Furillo supervised his men, they all respected him even when he had to make the hard designs.

I loved that show. It had everything, murder, intrigue, personal relationships.....I used to love the guy who was dressed like a bum but he was undercover and his mother used to call him all the time. And Daniel Travante (?) was great as the chief. And what was it that the sargent used to say each morning? Be safe out there??
