It means several things:

It can be a type of shoe women used to wear, like a sandal.
It can also be a fish.

Depending on the country it can be a type of boat (Cuba) or it can refer to someone whose legs or feet are twisted and walks in a strange way (Colombia). (I don't know the word in English).
