Sourcefoge.net is perfectly safe, I've used it for years.
Audacity is a great little program. Just bare in mind many other programs are in Beta and may have a few bugs.

Yes source forge is safe for a site ran by coders
(coders are the people who make viruses ,trojans and spyware)
but I'm sure there are the good kind
