And won't deny it in any situation, although the majority of people surrounding you are religious?

JesusFan - prove me wrong. Have you seen god in real life? No! No one has! So don't generalize. Not all atheists commit suicide.

NO one's religious beliefs (or lack thereof) are anything to be PROUD of. Pride should always be **given** to others who have done something that is **praiseworthy.** For example, I'm proud of the our Medal of Honor winners for their sacrifices or risks taken to save others' lives.

So, just as another example -- Am I PROUD to be an American? Of course not. I was born one, and had nothing to do with that. So that would be pointless. But I *am* proud of the great Americans of history who contributed to making this country great, such as Washington, Jefferson, George Washington Carver, FDR, MLK, Jr., Jonas Salk, JFK, etc.

I do not wear it on my sleeve, but if anyone asks then I will tell them*.

I am proud of who I am. Being an atheist is just part of that.

* I will make an exception if the person asking is stood next to a stake with a lot of firewood around it, or if they are carrying a red hot poker. The comfy chair and the soft pillows I could probably resist for a while.

I would never deny I was an Atheist there are certain older family members I don't wish to tell but if they asked me I would tell them the truth I think they suspect but are fearful of the answer. I don't go out and shout it out to the world but when asked I will tell. I don't know if you could say proud but I'm happy with who I am and thats a part of me.

Me, just as much as I am proud to be an A-Unicornist, A-fairiest, A-santa clausist, A-Elvis is still aliveist, A-mythologist, etc... The tides are shifting my friend. Religious people are a dying breed.

Most are certainly proud and glad they are not burdened with a load of bs on their backs and living in a pretentious world just to get along.

Atheists do not need to be proud to be realistic. Theists are the holier-than-thous who bring pride into the equation.

pride isnt a virtue. Pride leads to all sorts of dangerous thoughts like Nationalism. Pride is a great tool for leaders to extract the lives and hard earned cash of their people to further their ends. I dont deny being atheist.

I am not an atheist but there are a good number of them that I would want by my side as I face the world.

They are good people who believe differently than me.
