What should i do if my cordless phone produces a very high pitched screaching dial tone when i press talk?

1.There was a lightning nearby a few days ago.
2.My base unit is connected to the a power surge strip.
3.I have made sure the phone jack is working.
4.When i call this phone, I get the notification but when i press talk, i get a very high pitched screeching noise.

well do you have internet if so disconect
