i wear elastics at the moment and they suck, there so darn painful, and there giving me a clicky jaw on one side. im only wearing them at night because they hurt so darn much, its not really hurting pain, just annoying pain, i have lots of things to do, i dont need this pain, its distracting. they need to develop another way to do it rather than elastics. will wearing them only at night harm how long i have braces?

Did your dentist tell you to wear them all day? If so, I would listen to your dentist, especially if you want to get rid of your braces as soon a possible. I had a friend who (for some strange reason) loved to wear braces and purposely refused to wear elastics so she could have her braces on longer. She ended up wearing braces for 7 years.

I had braces too and, yes, I had to wear those "darn" elastics as well. It hurts a lot for the first few days, but after a while it won't hurt as much (trust me). So, unless you want to wear your braces for 7 years like my friend, I suggest you endure the pain and start wearing them during the day (of course, take them off when you're going to eat. I suggest taking them off 15 min. before eating because your teeth stop hurting which, obviously, makes it easier to chew).

Have fun wearing those elastics (jk)! It will hurt, but in the end, it's worth it (the straight, beautiful smile you'll get in the end is definitely worth all the pain and suffering of braces...and elastics).

You have to put in a certain number of hours. If you only do it at night, you lengthen the time you have to wear them. It hurts a lot at first but gets easier the more time you do until you don't notice it, like every time you get the braces tightened. And the result is really worth it. (PS. When you get the retainer, really wear it; I didn't and I regret it as my teeth shifted back a little.)

wear them at night for a while and then your teeth will move closer to where they are supposed to be, then wear them all the time. the pain will stop as your teeth get closer to the correct possition.
