Furuncles, or more commonly known as boils, are caused by Staphylococcus aureus. Many, many people are staphylococcus carriers and they aren't even aware of it, because it's generally part of their normal flora in the nose and in the skin. It's so common, in fact, that all infants have it due to their lack of normal flora. Sometimes, a hair follicle gets infected with the staph bacteria, and this causes a furuncle, or boil. It is characterized by a pimple-like lesion, with inflammation including localized redness, heat, and sometimes pus that leaks out onto the surface of the skin. Whatever you do, don't squeeze it!! If you do, it can cause further infection that's called a carbuncle. A carbuncle is an infected furuncle that has gotten into deeper tissue. Lance the boil carefully, and use gloves if you do this for him, because it is very contagious. The best way to bring the boil to the surface sooner is by using Icthamol, which is a black ointment that's considered a "drawing" medicine. It smells like tar, and it's greasy, but it works well. It is available at any pharmacy for around $5, but you may have to ask the pharmacist for it, as they usually keep it behind the counter. It's not a prescription, though. Good luck to you, and remember, lance - don't squeeze, and be careful not to infect yourself!

I just read the answer left by "Terri B" and that's exactly how to apply the icthamol :-)

A hot wet washcloth, but keep pressing it gently on the boil until it comes to a head, don't just sit the wet cloth on the boil. Press.

You can gently pull the skin apart, not squeeze, and it will allow the puss come out. I suggest a cottonball soaked in rubbing alcohol pressed onto the area after it had opened. May leave a scar once healed.

Sounds like a cyst. That will have to be removed. I had the same problem. It probably hurts too. I was told to apply a warm clothe and wait. Don't force it in any way to a head. He will probably have to have a prescription to remove the infection, before the doctor removes the cyst. They put me on Keflex for 7 days.

You never stated in what condion the vipers existed. Are they alive? Are they freshly killed? Are they rotting? Are they even real? I suppose they could be fake. I've seen fake snakes for sale. Given the amount of information, either b or c. Most likely it would be c. I would be waiting for the police. You just try getting a single snake anywhere near my wife. Somebody somewhere is hurt.

The skin is the body's largest organ, followed by the lymphatic system. Both fight infections and disease by eliminating toxins.

My husband used to use something Im pretty sure he called "black cream" to clear up his boils although it was white... he used to get a tiny pot from the chemist, and it was supposed to "draw out" what was in the boil and dry it out.

I would rather use a home made poultice, for instance a recipe with an oatmeal and honey base...

I suggest that if he chronically suffers from boils, it is his body trying to DETOX some toxic substances ... does he drink alcohol, smoke, drink tons of cofee or soda...? Is he on any new medications?? Does he work in an oily, smoky, dusty environment??

Cleansing baths,
steam baths,
saunas,
would be good to help his skin to purge itself, but more importantly, a detox diet would be of better long-term help to assist the body in cleansing out the impurities or infections it is apparently fighting.....

If the boil is more like acne, I use "Virasolve" a Cold Sore cream, as I find that works to kill any bacteria and dry up my acne. I just smooth it on my pimple or sore every few hours. It also helps to take away some of the pain.

There could be a lot more to this than just a skin blockage or irritation.

There are more, but you can find them as you read more.

Also be aware that sometimes a cold or flu causes boils too, as the body tries to fight it off...

If the boils increase in size, or multiply, see your doctor in case he needs antibiotics as well.
