The most important thing is that we have accepted Jesus as our personal Saviour. People are confussing the concept of who God is. The Bible does not explain fully about this so there is no reason we should be debating it. If God wanted us to understand it clearly then he would have taken the time to explain it to us. I don't understand why this has to be an issue at all. I don't think we will be kept from heaven because we do not understand the concept of the trinity.
Now, my understanding about what the Bible does tell us is that there is one God made up of three persons. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. They are 3 seperate persons but are one in mind. I still do not believe that an understanding of this or not will get us into heaven or not.

Yesterday evening's church sermon was on that point, based on Romans chapter 10. "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved". Our complicating the gospel message was pointed out as something we need to avoid. We can make it off-putting to others with a list of requirements that are not actually connected with being saved.
However, there are some who insist we have to call on the name of Jehovah for salvation, not the name of Christ, as the New Testament clearly shows. This is because they refuse to accept Christ as God (with a capital 'G'). So doctrine DOES come into this. Also, we need to be clear that Jesus is both God AND God's Son when incarnated as Jesus. Also, in Rev. 1 the "someone like the Son of Man" standing among the lampstands (Christ) is identified as the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last - God. But those self-same ones refuse to admit he is God. So there's no getting away from establishing correct doctrine about Jesus as Saviour in order to be saved. The confusion would be cleared if we more strongly explained the doctrine of the Person of Christ.

Indeed. Something has brought us to this place, however. Heresy. Many Christians do not know the Jesus of the Bible. This is primarily because the Bible no longer gets taught in many churches.
People buy into a greasy grace, or sloppy agape, and receive a "therapeutic" Jesus who wants them to be "happy." This caricature of Jesus has nothing to do with the biblical Jesus.
If the Jesus they believe in isn't who He said He was in the Bible, can the Jesus they believe in save them? A good example of this is found in the fringes. Is the Jesus they believe in Michael the Archangel? If he is, that is not the Jesus of the Bible, and is powerless to save.
Is the Jesus they believe in the brother of Lucifer, and the son of Elohim? If he is, that also is not the Jesus of the Bible, and is powerless to save.
I could use many other examples, such a a socialist, feel good Jesus who says, "There, there, boys will be boys," and never looks down on sin, but he can't save, either.
This is why it is important to know the Jesus of the Bible. Jesus even warned us about the coming false Christs. "For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect--if that were possible." (Matthew 24:24)

Dusty Scribe, thank you for telling it like it is. Many say Jesus is their Savior, but who are they really talking about? We, as Christians...who follow Jesus, God's only begotten Son, who died for us and rose again, can be fooled if we do not study the word of God. The people of Berea searched the scriptures to be sure that Paul and Silas's words coincided with scripture. The time is short. Satan is busy. People can take the truth and change it into a lie.
I am relatively new to Yahoo, and I have found myself temporarily duped by some answers given. I have thought,"Oh, that person is a Christian." But I discovered later they were not. Just because someone talks about God and/or Jesus, doesn't mean they are born anew. In Matthew 10: 16, Jesus says, " Behold I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves." Christians, we must know what we believe as well as in whom we believe! It is easy to be deceived, if we are ignorant. Satan attacks the gospel. Let's not be ignorant of his devices.

In order to worship God in spirit and truth, we must have knowledge of the WHOLE truth. (John 4:24) The Bible says Jehovah is the Most High, the only true God. (Ps. 83:18; John 17:3) Jesus Christ is NOT God, but the Son of God. (John 10:36)

When you come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as your saviour all the rest will fall into place. He is part of the divine trinity. God, the FAther, God , the son, and God the Holy Ghost.
When you become saved, you may not still understand it, butyou will have the assurance you will understand when you reach heaven.

Jesus as your savior: remember that he is the sacrificial lamb that shed his blood for YOU!, to cleanse all of your sins; past, present and future. He full filled and nailed the 10 commandments to the cross at his death, to those who believe in him (Colossi ans 2:14). God will remember your sins no more with the believe on the one who he sent (Hebrews 10:17). Jesus said: "When I return, will there be faith".
If Jesus did not do this for you, then he died in vain.
A church should perform communion at every service, in remembrance to him. We are only righteous through him. Without him, we would have to bring our unblemished goat to the alter every year to vanish our sins for a year.

Hey Brother Don, its important to know that Jesus was the son of God, for many people believe he was just another prophet, people need to know him for what he really is. Its just that after you acknowledge he is the Son of God, you realize that he is your Saviour. Overall, knowing that Jesus is your Saviour is more important, but you have to know he is the Son of God first.

It is foundational of the Christian Church to Confess (as enlightened by the Father) that Jesus Is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. (The Only Begotten Son)
That there is no remission of sins except for the shedding of blood.
Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God without blemish.
Whosoever shall confess Jesus Christ their Lord and believe in their hear that He raised from the dead shall be saved.
For God sent His Only Begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him will not perish but will inherit ever lasting life.
So? I think what is foundationally important is heart faith in Jesus. What the Gospel Truth about Jesus Is. So? It is important initially to believe in your heart, Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. That He Shed His blood for remission of your sins & raised from the dead for your justification. To accept Jesus, you must verbally confess Jesus Christ your Lord & Savior. See? You have to trust & believe enouph in your heart to confess Jesus Christ your Lord. That He sits at the right hand of Gods Glory. That Jesus, in His resurrected Humanity has been given the Name above all names. That at the Name of Jesus, every knee shall bow, & tongue confess, "Jesus Christ is Lord.". To the Glory of God the Father. That means confessing Jesus Christ your Lord to God & not to man so much. But we must confess our faith before men & not deny Christ, or else then we are in trouble.

Brother Don
We need to know both. We need both head and heart knowledge. The Gospels tell us who Jesus is, what His mission was and how He accepted and completed that mission.
The remainder of the NT we are instructed on what it means to be Christian and how we should act.
The OT is history and prophecy leading to the advent of Christ.
We need it all my Brother. Amen
