first off, it's an hp photosmart e327.

i turn it on, the welcome screen comes up twice, when it used to only come up once.. the live picture goes on for two seconds and then turns off by itself. and then if you tilt the screen in a certain light you can vaugely see what was just on the screen... the batteries shouldn't be old, i put them in not too long ago and the camera was working yesterday as far as i know. i'm at a loss. any help or suggestions would be great. thanks.

I have a Cannon S1IS Powershot digital camera - nice rig by the way - but it eats batteries. So I had to buy some rechargeable ones. So get some fresh batteries for your camera to see if that helps. If not then use a .44 Magnum to fix your camera

Try new alkaline batteries before buying a set or rechargables--the camera could be bad. Look at the manual and/or the camera for the reset button. Try resetting and see if this solves the problem.

Digital cameras eat batteries, some cams quicker than others. Buy a set of rechargeable batteries & charger first.
