When you're in a public restroom and someone knocks on the door what are you supposed to say? Because if you say "I'm in here" it sounds stupid because they don't know who you are. And if you say "Occupied" you sound like a robot and it's embarrasing! I know this question may sound silly but i need to know!

This happens to me all the time at my work. I work at different school sites as a substitute teacher, and no one usually knows me. When I'm in the restroom and someone is rattling their keys about to unlock the door on me, I yell out "someone's in here" and that stops them from unlocking the door. It works! I hope this helped. :)

I agree with, "I'll be out in a minute". If you say nothing. They may think no one is in there. Because sometimes people/kids lock the doors and crawl out. So, they may try to crawl under to get in. If it's a one restroom type of thing. They could go get a key. Again, thinking someone locked it when they left.

What do you mean knock on the door? You mean the cleaning person is knocking on the door to the restroom itself, or someone knocks on the door to your stall? Either way, I always say, "Just a minute."

I'd say "Come back in half an hour if you want to use this stall. Don't want to offend your nasal passages or anything, but I got pretty backed up- and after a healthy dose of fiber, I have some business that needs to be moved. It also may not be the most pleasant thing to listen to. Good luck in your search!"

I just say, "Occupied." Does it really make a person sound like a robot?

its very interesting because once you pull down your pants and sit on the wc you feel stupid and everything that comes out of you sounds awkward. what i usually do is to create some sound by means of tapping my foot or anything aside talking that lets the persom know that i am there

Just responding to the knock is fine. the reponse does not have to be wo defined. Acknowledging that someone is trying to come in while you are already there can be said many ways.

You could try : Just a minute! It is a very weird situation to be in, but at least the doors have locks (I hope).

If you in the bathroom, and the door is locked, you don't have to say anything. They need to chill out. Locked means locked.
