Because they are not happy with who they are. I never felt a need to decimate my body.

It is typicalmale behavior to mark territory and belongings. some researchers say that even the very act of the male inpregnating the female is a inate attempt to mark her as his. Men not only love to mark their territory, they also like to do whats called bluffing..bluffing is a form of braggadocio or muscle flexing as a means to warn or intimidate others, mainly other males. Tattoos would be a combo of bluffing and marking....sought of like the signs you see on yard fences "beware of dog" except with a tattoo, you get a more distinct warning of what type of bad dog you might be dealing with.

because we want to lol, i think it might be a psychological thing, I mean, I like people to see my tattoos, but why? hmm... I dunno, cuz they are cool I guess. Now you got me thinking!
