Please help me. I cannot figure out why I enjoy lying, and sometimes I believe my own lies. Please diagnose me. I am very upset about this. Am I just crazy? This is not funny-I am worried about myself.

I don't know if I can help much, but I can tell you, I'm very similar. Sometimes it's very little white lies, to make a story sound better or something, and other times I lie to myself to make the day go by a little faster. But I have found that simply taking out a bit of time every now and then to write down stuff and be brutally honest with myself helps. No one has to see it. I even tore up the pieces of paper I used and threw it away. It just reminds you and wakes you up to what's real, and helps a bit during the day. I'm sorry if this doesn't help much, it might not stop you lying, but for me at least, it helps keep a hold on what's true and what's real. Hope this helps a little. :)

Psychopathetic lying is very common. It can come from the need to be smarter or quicker on the ball than your friends - in other words, you lack self-esteem. You might want to get some professional help if you are so aware of it and want to stop the pattern Try picking one close friend and telling her ONLY the truth for a while - and if you don't "know" something, do not feel stupid. There isn't anyone who knows everything and it's not a problem to ask a question and learn instead of pretending you DO know. A psychologist can help you with the self-esteem issues and the compulsive lying can be stopped. Get help - good luck!

If you start to believe your lies. Then you have become a compulsive liar.Your lying has become so bad you believe what you say.Maybe you're not religious or anything but you should pray about it.If not well, whenever youre about to lie, take a moment,a deep breath an think,is it worth it? What happens when this person finds out i lied.Cause when u tell one lie you have to tell another to get out of the first one then eventually u have a web of lies that u're stuck in.
And maybe you can tell someone you trust an always around like a best friend or buddy or brother so that the person can stop you when they know your are about to lie.
If you alot of guts you can keep a lie book. That way you write what u lied about an sometime later you tell that person u lied.

don't worry. i think most people are like that. well, i know i am. i sometimes lie to get myself out of a sticky situation, or sometimes, just to brighten up my day and make my life seem more interesting. Sometimes i begin to believe my own lies too, i just find it helps to at least tell one person the truth all the time, and write down the lies next to the truth, it may sound weird, but i find it helps =]
good luck

Reasons to stop lying:
1. Lying is obvious. Almost everyone knows when you lie - almost every single time. Most people will pretend to believe a lie because they dont know how to react.
2.People will think you are crazy.
3.People will never trust you.
4. People will never respect you.
5. People will hate you.
6.You will loose your friends.

You lie because you want to be something that you are not.. a honest person. You obviously have low self-esteem and perhaps you don't feel good about your circumstances in life so it's easier to pretend. You don't want people to know the truth about who you really are cause you know they will not accept the real you. Don't think you are the only one out there with this problem. I would venture to say most people are just like you so guess what, just don't hurt anyone, cause right now you are only hurting yourself.

once you lie, you have to keep doing it so you won't get busted.....

but if you keep doing this....you are lacking self-esteem....moreover if you lie about yourself to make you look good...

but i also lie to get things done or attention from my boyfriend...and i have no guilt in doing so

however if you believe in your own lies...i don't think so because u don't give example....

since my bf don't even know YA ever exist....i would like to say

that i use to invent on a story and act according to it and manage to get friends to help me...i lied for about 2 years and he didn't find out until now...in this case, i pretend to be sick...only in front of him but i act very normal in front of everyone else....if you mean believe your own lies....quite similar with my story...then i think you are totally normal but not that nice...hehe

some reasons people lie are:
1.fear of the truth - duh.
2.enjoyment of being the only one that "knows" (superiority etc.)
3.lying gets you what you want, but not always what you need.

the first step if finding out why.
the next is catching yourself when you do it
and then slowly working closer and closer to telling the truth.

try saying it outloud when you lie ... it can be an embarrassing thing that will make you wanna stop!

Are you the type of person that can enjoy doing things by yourself,or do you have to have other people around? If its the latter,I would guess that you lie to get attention.
