Christians believe that the doctrine of the Trinity is clearly based on the Biblical revelation only.
For any religion, it is of importance to be right on the nature of God. If it is God's intention to correct the Christian corruptions and heretical abberations of the true understanding of Himself by this new revelation through the Qur'an, why does the Qur'an get it so woefully wrong?
Why is the Qur'an so concerned to condemn a "tri-theism of God, Mary and Jesus", which no Christian believes in anyway, instead of clearifying the mistake in regard to the true Christian doctrine being the "Trinity of God Father, Son and Holy Spirit"?

work for truth thanks for pointing out what I mean.
"Certainly, those who say God is the third of three have disbeleived. And there is no God except the One God."(5:73
The Qur'an accuses Christians of saying "God is one OF three" but Christians say that "God is one IN three" (two letters making an extremely important difference) keep on with your studies:-)

Our translations either butcher or replace most names and titles, including all of the most important ones. Lord was not a title attributed to God on any page of any of the pre-Constantinian Greek manuscripts of the Renewed Covenant. God called himselve Yahuwe not Lord.

Cogito Islam speaks out against a wrong Trinity concept. The Qur'an denounces the "tri-theistic" group of "God, Jesus and Mary" [5:116], but the Trinity consists of "Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The Qur'an gives the impression that Christians elevated Mary to a divine status, but no Christian has ever said that Mary is anything more than a human being. The Bible says no such thing. All true Christian doctrine is based on the Bible as the word of God.
Catholics see her as mediator not part of the Godhead.

The Book (Qur'an) seems to be sent down for the "express purpose" to make clear those things on which there are different opinions (verse 64).
There are a number of doctrinal issues where we have to ask if the Qur'an gives the promised clarification or does only add to the perceived confusion.
The doctrine of the Trinity was clearly spelled out about 300 years before Muhammad and the appearance of the Qur'an.
In Muhammeds time a heretical group did believe that Mary was divine.
Why would God choose to speak out in his final and universal revelation against some small heretical group, while totally ignoring the related central doctrine of the largest religion on earth.

hpathik thanks for your answer. Islam tends to associate the Biblical dogma of the eternal Sonship of Christ with pagan ideas of divine progeny.

coolred38 you have a wrong understanding like all Muslims, what you are talking about is Tritheism, something which Biblical Christians have never advocated. There was never three in one.

adamjer about S. 19:88 Yusuf Ali attacks the Christian concept of divine sonship. Yusuf Ali states:
Here the Christian attitude is condemned, which raises Jesus to an equality with Allah: in some cases venerates Mary almost to idolatry: attributes a physical son to Allah: and invents the doctrine of the Trinity, opposed to all reason, which according to the Athanasian Creed, unless a man believes, he is doomed to hell for ever.
Yet what Islam is condemning in this text is a naturalistic idea of the eternal Sonship of Jesus, proposing a concept of God behaving like the gods of Greece and Rome, seducing humans and producing demi-gods. This is not how Biblical and historic Christian dogma has presented the idea of divine sonship in its understanding.
Christianity does not speak of a physical son.
Yusuf Ali is not the best choice to explain Christian doctrine.

James Dean Would it not be more practical to mention the teaching of trinity that is actually in existance rather than the one that died out a little after Mohammed lived? Mohammed included the trinity doctrine of Maryiamite sect because at the time in arabia this sect might have been prevalant. However after the demise of this sect, this verse of the koran inadvertantly becomes redundant, because no matter what sect of Christianity you take, even the Roman Catholics or orthodox, they too revere Mary simply as Jesus' mother and at a very high esteem above all saints BUT NEVER in the same level as GOD.
If Islam were the actual truth, allah would know better than to mention something that would become irrelevant within the turn of the century. A simple mention of the Holy spirit instead of Mary would have made a world of difference, in Islam's claim to the truth.

There is a misunderstanding in the part of of Islam about Trinity. One of the objections is that God cannot be father. Because this suggest some sort of carnal sexual relationship in the part of God. So, this doctrine is denied. But Christians believe the Father and Son is not biological but it just shows closeness of relationship between the persons of the trinity. There are many other misunderstandings about Christianity in Islam.

Tri-theism is evident in nearly all main religions. Even Hinduism, the oldest religion and having many gods, has a trinity-base beginning (Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva) Most Christians believe in God, Jesus, Holy Spirit as a "trinity". No where in scripture can the word "trinity" be found. Once again, this is a man-made addition to scripture. Although, I do find it interesting how so many belief systems have the union of three divine beings ingrained in their ideas.
Your statement that it is important to be right on the nature of god is quite humorous since we all have different thoughts on what or who god is.

I'm sorry I've spent the last 9 years of my life studying Islamic Theology/Law and through this time I have studied the exegesis of the Qur'an and I am sorry that you have intvented something like most people do about Islam. There are two verses in the Qur'an rebuking the claim of a trinitarian God and neither give detail. So what made you go all the way to come spread lies of unfounded info. Just trying to fit in I guess.
"And do not say "trinity" desist from that it is better for you. Indeed God is One God"(4:171)
"Certainly, those who say God is the third of three have disbeleived. And there is no God except the One God."(5:73)
Don't beleive everything you here and definitely don't spread it. It is purely unethical regardless of your relgion or lack thereof.

You misunderstood the Koran. The Koran never said that Mary was part of the trinity. The Koran denounced those who claimed Mary to be divine. Remember when Pope John Paul II was assassinated by Mehmet Ali Agca in 1981? When he survived the assassination attempt, the Pope said that Mary was the one that saved him. Catholics believe Mary to be divine and they worship her greatly. Protestants denounce that.
Therefore the Koran crtiticized Trinitarian Christians for believing in Jesus (and the Holy Spirit) along with God; as well as those Christians that declare Mary to be divine. Thus the Koran actually criticized two forms of polytheism in one sentence! Jesus never told his followers to worship him as being God the Son; nor did he order the Christians to worship his mother and make pagan statues and icons of her.
This is what the Koran informs us. That you misunderstood the Koran is something anticipated; as your intentions are clearly evil. Isn't it enough shame that you believe that Jesus is God and now you come to criticize a religion that is strictly monotheistic? A million shame on you!

There is no reason to dispute the nature of Allah has has himself decribed what he is and what he is not, please read the following quranic verses.
The Nature of Allah
1 Say: He is Allah the One and Only; 6296 6297
2 Allah the Eternal Absolute; 6298
3 He begetteth not nor is He begotten; 6299
4 And there is none like unto Him. 6300
6296 The nature of Allah is here indicated to us in a few words, such as we can understand. The qualities of Allah are described in numerous places elsewhere, e.g., in lix. 22-24, lxii. 1, and ii. 255. Here we are specially taught to avoid the pitfalls into which men and nations have fallen at various times in trying to understand Allah. The first thing we have to note is that His nature is so sublime, so far beyond our limited conceptions, that the best way in which we can realise Him is to feel that He is a Personality, "He", and not a mere abstract conception of philosophy. He is near us; He cares for us; we owe our existence to Him. Secondly, He is the One and Only God, the Only One to Whom worship is due; all other things or beings that we can think of are His creatures and in no way comparable to Him. Thirdly, He is Eternal, without beginning or end, Absolute, not limited by time or place or circumstance, the Reality. Fourthly, we must not think of Him as having a son or a father, for that would be to import animal qualities into our conception of Him. Fifthly, He is not like any other person or thing that we know or can imagine: His qualities and nature are unique. (112.1)
6297 This is to negative the idea of Polytheism, a system in which people believe in gods many and lords many. Such a system is opposed to our truest and profoundest conceptions of life. For Unity in Design, Unity in the fundamental facts of existence, proclaim the Unity of the Maker. (112.1)
6298 Samad is difficult to translate by one word. I have used two, "Eternal" and "Absolute". The latter implies: (1) that absolute existence can only be predicated of Him; all other existence is temporal or conditional; (2) that He is dependent on no person or things, but all persons or things are dependent on Him, thus negativing the idea of gods and goddesses who ate and drank, wrangled and plotted, depended on the gifts of worshippers, etc. (112.2)
6299 This is to negative the Christian idea of the godhead, "the Father", "the only-begotten Son" etc. (112.3)
6300 This sums up the whole argument and warns us specially against Anthropomorphism, the tendency to conceive of Allah after our own pattern, an insidious tendency that creeps in at all times and among all peoples. (112.4)

It would definitely seem an all knowing God would be able to say the least understand the doctrine even if he did not agree with it. Allah seems to misinterpret what the Christians believed much as I would expect Muhammad would have understood the doctrine. Christians believe as Moses taught that man was created in the image of God and we are one man with flesh and spirit and one living soul...Moses seemed to understand that this was the image of God. It becomes apparent that the God that spoke to Moses and Abraham and Isaiah and Jesus understood this doctrine of trinity...Allah seems not only to disagree but confused by it. If an all knowing god was going to disagree it would seem he would at least understand it.

tri means three regardless of what comes after it...God is correcting the misconception that Christians have about the Oneness of God...whether it be God, Jesus and Mary....or God/Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit
The main point being is do not say 3 when in fact I am only One and I have no partners and nothing is like Me.

And you have no understanding of The True Christian Faith... do not look to The Bible to find God... The Bible of The True Christian Faith dose not prove God... but God will prove The Bible to all who honestly seek and come to Him in The Way He prescribes.

YA has made it transparent that I am no longer allowed to publish my sincere opinion approximately that area........ at the same time I don't believe it's essential to right now.... it's time that nonetheless that the ones such as you come to understand the reality of the chance of islam..... you, if you're actually what you declare to be, could no longer be allowed to are living in an international ruled by way of islam..... ALL muslims need to obey the regulation of allah without doubt and with out exception..... it's the regulation of allah that islam is to dominate the sector, and that ALL who don't put up to the regulation of islam are to be killed If one could learn the Koran, one will uncover out that Allah wishes Muslims to kill the infidels (unbelievers) anyplace they're observed (Koran nine:five), and that peace will come most effective to those that put up to him (Koran eight:17, forty eight:29, and sixty five). The Koran additionally has Allah pronouncing that unbelievers must be killed (Koran two:191, three:141, four:104, four:89, eight:12-sixteen, nine:five, nine:seventy three-seventy four, nine:123, 25:fifty two…), that Muslim apostates must be killed or chastised (Koran two:39, two:eighty five, three:eighty five, three:106, four:89, sixteen:106, and forty seven:25-28), that the heads and arms of unbelievers must be reduce off (Koran five:33, eight:12, and forty seven:four), and that Muslims must combat and humiliate Jews and Christians (Koran five:18 and nine:29). Allah orders Muslims to not take Jews, Christians and different unbelievers as peers (Koran three:28, five:fifty one and nine:23), and won't forgive Christians (Koran four:forty eight and four:116). Muhammad taught to position the infidels to loss of life anyplace they have been observed (Koran two:191, two:244, four:89, five:36, nine:five, and nine:29), steered Muslims to combat the unbelievers who're near (Koran nine:123), stated that combating is necessary (Koran two:216), and mandated the conquering of the ones family who adversarial Muslims due to the fact that loyalty to Islam overrode all different human bonds (Koran nine:23-24, and fifty eight:22). who hates who? I will NEVER SUBMIT to the deceptions of the regulation of allah(islam/koran)

Not all Christians believe in that Trinity, father son holy ghost crap. At least not in the same way Catholics perceive it, so you could say that even Christians speak out against it.
I believe that what Islam is concerned with is the segregation and idolization of different aspects of the same faith. We have already turned Father, Son, and Holy Ghost into three things (perhaps for our own understanding?)... we consider Christ both God and a man. Catholics also praise to Mary. Oh my, what next? Pretty soon we will praise Ra, the sun god. And all this stemming from one God, one truth, standing next to one man in the garden of Eden so long ago.
God is God... there is no need for trinity... and that is what Islam is speaking out against.
