i guess it's because they want what's best for their son, and they think by giving this kind of advice, it would help with their concerns about the relationship

It's because they care, and they have been there and done that. Just because they give you advice, doesn't mean you have to head to it, but do listen, there could be a lesson to learn from them. The older you get, the wiser you are. And l am sure if they could turn back the hands of time, they would do what they are trying to tell you to do, so that their life would have been so much better. And one day, whether you like it or not, you will be in their shoes.

I would be happy to have a mother inlaw that cared enough to give advice. My husbands mom passed away and now he has a step mom that tries to avoid us and our kids like the plaque, also causing his father to do the same.
While I'm sure it's annoying, because my mom can be. As a mom, I can tell you she is probably doing it out of love. Good luck.

Because they are meddlers.

Give a little push back. The next time she's giving you a sermon, ask her, "So did your mother in law give you such good advice?" Then, turn and walk away.

You might mention your issue with your husband, also.

whatever you do, stand your ground. don't let her push you around because it will only get worse with time. give the brush off when she starts giving advice. grunt and grumble and always maintain a serious look on your face. you've basically got to beat her at her own game.

They do this because they are not thinking about our best interest...In my case it is about what is best for her daughter. Typically mother in laws are trying to right the wrongs in someone else's life...something they could not do for themself!!

Because no one but no one knows your spouse as well as their mother. Pay attention. If I had, I wouldn't have an ex because I would have never married him.

Because she wants you to take care of her little boy just as good as she did.

because mother in laws are not our relative. they don't care about our feelings and our future. because they are other people
