Well, if you read first book of the Old Testament, Genesis, it talks about a firmament in the heavens, that was seperate from the waters on the Earth and below the Earth. It is proposed that, in a Creation model, this firmament was like a bubble around the earth. Somewhat like a greenhouse. Notice the lush vegetation under the polar caps and the biggest climate change ever(Byrd Research Institute/Ohio State Research) occurred about 5500 B.C. at the time of the flood of Noah. Now if this pre flood environment did exist then it was possible that the cosmic radiation that pummels us today was deflected and genetic mutations and radiation didn't effect the generation of Adam. Longer ages are plausible. This coincides with the size factor of fossilized vegetation and reptiles. Reptiles and fish with indeterminant growth, means the grow their whole lives, would have been huge after 900 years. Small Tassle Ferns and dragonflies that we have now were huge before fossilization. This is exactly what we see in the fossil record and nothing about evolution. According to the Bible at the flood of Noah the firmament above and below were broken. The above firmament could have been a complete ozone bubble that was broken by a huge meteor that mixed atmospheric Hydrogen with Ozone which is 3 Oxygen atoms and created 40 days worth of rain and a big hole in the ozone layer and possibly breaking forth the waters below on the impact. It is also noteworthy that the fossil record is a record of prehistoric (anything prior to history @7000 years ago) animals killed in a flood. It explains the fresh water of the polar caps that covers lush, frozen, vegetation that was frozen suddenly and kept in tact as well as the Mammoths.

Because of the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics (all things go from order to disorder). During the period before the fall of man, the 2nd law didn't exist, allowing everything to continue at the same rate is usualy would. This would theoreticaly mean man could be immortal, since growing old physicaly is a form of order-to-disorder. After the fall, the world was still rather ordered, allowing amazing life spans- however, due to the rapid decline into disorder, partialy due to effects brought about by the flood, man's age capacity fell dramaticaly. However, man has come up with medicines and the technology to extend life, partialy countering the 2nd law of thermodynamics.

Things don't just pop in our heads that have biblical truth. With each and every passing generation the world has become more and more wicked. Sin corrupts, sin kills. We can't expect to live when the teachings and love of theLife-giver, Jesus Christ, is being shunned, hated even. I'm thankful that I don't have to live 900 years around the main-stream attitudes of this world. I was made, as every true Christian, for a different place (heaven) and to die is a gain for us.

I doubt that we ever did. In fact, the physical evidence suggests that we are more long-lived now than at any time in our history. In the old days, anyone who got too old to be useful to the tribe was left behind, one way or another. And they wore out quicker. There was very poor medical care for the most part, and very poor sanitation. No understanding of disease processes.
I realize you are referring to stories in the Bible about Methuselah and so on. They are simply not true, scientifically. There may be a spiritual point made in the story, but it is not fact.

Well, assuming that the story in the Bible is true (which the jury is still out on, in my eyes)...
The whole reason mankind was allowed such a long lifetime in Genesis is so that they could have numerous children. According to the Bible (I assume this is a Biblical question), the reason that mankind no longer needed such a long lifetime is because they had had enough children.
They were allowed a long lifetime because God's spirit was on them. When He took His spirit away from them, they gradually started having shorter lifetimes.

Because of sin has gotten to a place that has shorten our life, But in the milliennium, we shall live out our day(1000 yrs.) Because in the milliennium it says a child shall live his days of 100 yrs. In other words a 100 yr old person is still a child.

Finally. A REAL question.
We have to get back to the notion of self-healing and self-renewal. When we believe that we can live longer, we will start too. It's not complicated.
