The number of wine calories in an average glass (4 fl oz/115ml) is shown in the table below. Wine can contain up to 15% alcohol by volume and alcohol has lots of calories. As a comparison alcohol contains 7 calories per gram and fat has 9 calories per gram. The more alcohol a wine contains the more energy that wine will contain. Therefore to lose weight it may be best to cut out wines and other alcoholic drinks until you have reached your goal weight. It's also a good idea to use non-alcoholic drinks until the weight is lost.
Alcohol-free Wine 37 calories
Dry Red Wine 83 calories
Sweet Red Wine 100 calories

That's an easy one, enjoy 1 glass of wine a night with dinner and don't worry about the calories.
Alcohol is a strange beast in that it does contain calories but it doesn't really have a significant weight gain. In fact it's been shown to have a mild weight loss effect for women provided you drink in moderation.

if its 2 glasses of red wine every day then theres lots of calories in fact You should avoid or strictly limit alcohol when you are trying to lose weight," advises The Australian Calorie Counter, published by Penguin.
"If you drink a lot of alcohol regularly, you are likely to gain weight."

Sue:
No big problem in my opinion.
Red wine has some calories, but not that many, it is healthy, has anti-aging agents, antioxidants, and helps digestion.
Also if you enjoy life with such a moderate "excess", then keep at it! We are not in Sparta! Let´s not loose perspective of things.
You will probably not gain or lose significant weight just by reducing your two glasses to one or to none for that matter. See for yourself if need be.
Also it can be a motivation to walk a little more distance, or faster, or to exercise a bit more to ease up you conscious and then say; There, now I can enjoy my wine.
Cheers!

My hubby and I have been doing the Slimming World diet since February, he has 2 glasses of red wine every single night and has lost 2 stone, you have sins on Slimming World which allows you to have your wine if you want it, check the diet out at www.slimmingworld.co.uk, the best thing is you don't have to cut food out to have your treats like wine, good luck.

Why do you need 2 glasses of wine? Why not cut down to one small glass of wine? If you still want the wine you need to up the exercise and work it off that way. It's very simple you have to burn more calories that you take in to lose weight, and you need to ask yourself which you want more, lose weight or two glasses of wine?

you cant. alcohol has empty calories - body cant use them for energy so they are all stored in fat reserves.
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio is the only fat burning exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Calories in and calories out, equals fat on hips. So it is up to you what you choose to have. Set a number of calories, usually 1200 to 1500 calories. How you make up those calories is not important. Have your wine but it will cut into you calorie limit significantly. Or exercise extra to have your wine.
Really sound advice, except I can never seem to take my own advice. (Basher's Batey says while eating Doritos and a little chocolate!)

I wouldn't worry too much about the wine. its more down to what you eat and how much of it. also, exercise...that's the best way to loose weight. I'm a believer in healthy eating, which Ive only really just started myself. I'm no expert, but from what Ive seen I'm my weight loss, its been from cutting down on fatty foods and sweets. oh yes, and going to the gym. enjoy your wine! cheers!

Hi, I don't think it is the 2 glasses of red wine that makes you put on weight - its the food that you have with it. My husband and I usually have a couple of glasses of wine with dinner - he never puts on weight - I only do if I overeat and don't exercise. Don't blame the wine.
