Well...my dog barks all day, all night. I've had her for 7 months now and we started hearing complaints off neighbours. We need to do something quick. We tell her "No" when she barks or "quiet" but it doesn't seem to work. We also bought one of those bark control machines from pets at home. It realeases a noise or something to make them stop. But...it doesn't work! She just screams instead...what else can i do!?

Terriers are vocal. That is a fact. But you do have to draw the line between being vocal and being excessively vocal. Although SOME dogs like the sound of their own voices, most bark for a reason. You need to get to the route cause of her barking and work it out from there. Plenty of exercise will also help immensely. I can tell you that after my dogs have received a sufficient level of stimulation, they sleep. Tired dogs sleep!

The dog needs alot of exercise to burn off her excess energy plus obed. training so she respects you. If she barks cuz she is outside move her in, if she barks out the window put her in a room w/o a view, turn on the TV to drown out noises. You can try a bark collar that either release Citronella or gives her a shock. Either can be bought at K V Vet or pet stores. My g/f has had several dogs debarked which makes their bark less loud so the neighbors do not complain. She used bark collars for years but her dogs act more natural after debarking. Her vet goes thru the mouth, the dog is out about 15 minutes and goes right home w/o any problems. If I had a chronic barker that is what I would do instead of shock collars. A water bottle works well if you are home or a throw can.

I know this can be frustrating, I had the same problem before. Something cheaper and better than surgery is a citronella collar. It is awesome, I used it on my dog with great results, no I am not a salesman for them, lol. They send a small mist of citronella in front of the dogs nose when it senses a bark. It looks like a shock collar but is more humane. The mist doesn't hurt them it just tastes and smells unpleasant. They learn -no bark -no mist. They will eventually break the habit of constant barking. Or you can take them to a trainer, but you will spend alot more. I suggest looking into the bark collar with citronella, it worked for me. :-)

We have a Cairn. To stop him from barking, we did two things:

1. we got a tin can and put a few pennies in it. When he started to bark, we would shake the can. Not only did he stop barking (except at the thunder), but he quit all of his bad behavior.

2. To get him to stop barking at thunder, we crated him during a storm. It did not eliminate it (especially when it was loud), but got rid of almost all of the needless barking.

Its kind of sad now, because he is over 15 and can not hear very well, so he doesn't bark at the thunder (or fireworks) anymore.

Does she have a variety of toys and bones to occupy her? I don't know about anyone else, but my dog LOVES those bones that are pig's feet stuffed with peanut butter or cheese filling. They sell them in the bone isle at PetSmart, and they keep her quiet and occupied for HOURS. They're like magic bones or something, you don't hear a peep out of her!

Just make sure she's got a lot of stuff that occupies her. In addition, if you don't walk her regularly, you really should. Nothing takes that excess energy out of a dog (or a person, for that matter) than a 30-minute walk or jog. My pup is literally bouncing off the walls before I walk her, then afterwards she's almost in a coma. So peaceful. :)

If you don't do that or don't want to do that, then I don't really know what else to tell you other than good luck.

That is part of the terrier personality. They are very lively dogs, courageous to a fault and they bark a lot. You may have to keep her indoors more if her barking is constant and the neighbors are complaining. There is also an operation called debarking that will reduce her bark to a sort of low rasp. JMHO but I think it's cruel and would never do it to one of mine. However, it is something to think about if the only other alternative is getting rid of the dog. Ask your vet about it and see what he/she thinks.

Well here's the thing dogs are going to bark. Even dogs that have their barking box removed still bark, it's not as loud though. There's nothing you can really do about it. Sending it to obedience school might help but it's still going to bark.

Electric bark collar. Works on all dogs, all the time, trust me.
