my male dog has been done and he regularly humps my other dog(also male). having a dog neutered doesn't take away the urge, it just makes it "unproductive"

Females get spayed, males get castrated - both terms can be known as neutering.

Your dog's testicles have been removed, so he is no longer capable of reproducing. This doesn't necessarily stop sexual behaviour i.e humping however - if the dog was neutered after 8 months of age then this may have been too late to halt all sexual behaviour. Sometimes humping things is a sign of dominance, not actually to do with sex.

Both male and female cats and dogs are still capable of humping things after being neutered.

The most popular guy in this house is a neutered male. Even though a male has been neutered, that does not mean he cannot tie a female. The good thing is that no puppies will result. You should consider having your female spayed and that will end the behavior.

Males are neutered, not spayed. Mounting another animal, or your leg for that matter is not necessarily sexual. Mounting your leg for instance is purely a dominant behavior and should not be tolerated. Any behavior such as that shouldn't be tolerated anyway. My female is spayed, yet the un-neutered male next door tried to mount her. Dominance...I put him on the ground. He was not allowed to behave like that with my dogs.

** Yipe ** Male dogs can still get it up after being fixed. The only thing is that they will produce no sperm, so he can't hurt anything. The strange thing is it usually takes the desire away. Guess he is just a horn dog. LOL

Even neutered male dogs can tie with a female.

It is not unusual for a dog which has been neutered to be able to mate. As long as he was neutered at least a couple of months ago then he won't be able to father any puppies.

Define 'manages it'

My dogs male, he was neuteured before we got him from a rescue centre but he still sometimes becomes sexual aroused and starts humping legs and so forth so if this is your definition of 'managing it' then its quite normal in boy dogs

If you mean he produces sperm still then I dunno :S shouldn't really be possibly cos he'll have no testicles

Even though your dog has been neutered, it can take some time for his brain to tell him it's pointless. At least he can't father any pups
