depends on what type of fishing your doing is it freshwater or salt?? how big are the fish your fising for is the biggest question.... for general fishing though under general conditions for fish weighing anywhere from 0 to 10 lbs id say 8 to 12 lb test is just fine.... id go with the bigger because its always too late when you get your line broke..... good luck fishing and dont catch too many

Really depends on what you are fishing for. Personally I use 10# line for everything from 5 pound trout to 30# King Salmon. Line will handle a lot bigger, heaver fish than what the rating will lead you to believe. If you are going for lighter weight pan fish like bluegills, Sunnys, or even smaller trout, I'd use some Trilene LT in 8# and for heaver fish go with the Trilene XT in 10 or 12#. Good luck.

It really depends on what kind of fishing your are doing and what kind of pole you have. The bigger the fish you are looking for, the stronger line you need. That's why they are made with different weights/strenghts.

If you're going to fish bottom with a sinker, Ande fishing line is the best. If you're going to use a lure Berkely or Triline are the best. Reason is the stretch of the line.

As already mentioned depends on what your fishin'. Rule of thumb for begineers, heavier pound test = bigger fish. As for brand name, I've used and still do use Maxima, for Steelhead, Salmon, Trout, Crappie in other words just about any species I'm goin' for. But that's my preference, "different strokes for different folks", pretty much sums it up ;)...
